~o JUL on DE 2a. A $ "A Family Tradition for 126 Years" F PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 5, 1993 - 13 The New Year The New Year is a trustful chap.. he comes a - knocking at my door.. and dumps his lug- gage in my lap.. and sits him down serene and sure. His gifts and duties.. chances.. dreams.. their nature only time can tell.. but New Year makes a bow and beams.. most confident we'll use them well. It sort of arms us for the strife.. and puts new brawn and breath in me.. to welcome to my house of life.. a fellow with so much faith in me. (author unknown) Caesarea News Our sincere thanks to Co- rinne Wood and her committee, along with the help of the fire department. We are hoping to have a good skating rink in Put- sey Community Park within the week providing the weather- man co-operates with us. Christmas trees can be placed in the snow banks around the rink. Caesarea Community Hall Dance A splendid crowd attended the New Year's Eve Dance to say good - bye to 1992 and usher in the New Year 1993. One in attendance came forth and spoke of the great strides the committee has taken in paint- ing the hall inside, replacing a defective outside door, making and installing drapes and blinds, plus the installation of electric heaters and tracing cables in the washroom areas to reduce heating cost. Everyone gave the committee a great hand, and thanked them for their efforts. The dance was en- joyed by all present. A fine way to end the old year! * Families In The News A most enjoyable evening din- ner was hosted by Alan and El- eanor Cawker of Oshawa for the New Year celebration with 23 farhily members present. Daughter, Christie and Andrew Birnie were unable to attend due to other commitments. The highlight of the evening was a presentation to Alan Cawker who won the family _ golf championship for the sec-~ ond year in a row, held each year at Thanksgiving. He is also the Senior Champion of the Winchester Golf Club this year. Son Scott made the presenta- tion. Daughter-in-law Joanne, an artist, painted a beautiful likeness of Alan, in water color, getting set to take the swing at the club. Very nice indeed! Con- gratulations! Mrs. Neta Fish, Cadmus Rd., and Mabel Cawker, Nestleton, had a delightful visit with Marg Cornish at her home in Port- Perry, and guest Alice Thomas, Oshawa, catching up on the news of families, over the tea cups. Neta had tea with friend Ila Walters of Lindsay on Satur- day. Later she enjoyed dinner with daughter Audrey and Jim Leishman and family of Reabo- ro. Pleased to see Diane Riccio and son Jake of Scarborough on Saturday evening at the farm- stead and a pleasant hour of so- ciability was enjoyed before they left for home. Nestleton United Church With Wilma Wotten and fam- ily greeters at the door, a small Birthday wishes Crowd u Welcomes 1993 congregation due to the wintry weather on Sunday, Jan."3 at 11:16 a.m. Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service on Epiphany Sun- day, opening with the call to worship. The choir sang a "Ca- lypso arol" with Katie Mairs playing her keyboard and Carol Mairs directing. Very interest- ing! The minister's message enti- tled "What Did You Get For Christmas" based on Matthew and Isaiah read by David Weir. Arthur and David Weir col- lected the offering and the Dox- ology was sung. Carol Mairs was the pianist. Service closed with hymn "God Who Gives To Life It's Goodness," Benediction and Christmas Auld Lang Syne was sung. The prevalent flu is on the rounds; we trust those who are ill will be better real soon. Our very best wishes!
