John 8:12 ucw meets Jan. 6 What an odd winter, almost as unpredictable as the past summer. Would life be any bet- ter if we knew what is in store for us? We are always pleased to hear about individuals or fami- 'lies who previously lived on the Island or many families who still live on Scugog. Accordingly we have recently heard about members of the Bob and Maude Brown family. The occasion was a reunion at the Elmer and Bar- bara Brown home when 20 members of the family gathered to celebrate the 70th birthday of sister Olive Cox who has lived in Port Perry for several years. We can recall a day when sis- ters Olive and Ruby started their education together at the. "Head" school. Like many other families they have experienced sad and happy times. At present, people who have shared their lives wish good Scugog Island News by Reta Reader . Fa 5 2 Se: SS EE: hata A TE eA Aa aa health and happiness for Olive and other members. Prayer has power we may not "be aware of, the influence of prayer is: perfectly summed up in a little story about an old Scottish minister who was visit- ing a pensioner far on in years and almost stone deaf. After giving the sick man a warm clasp of his hand the min- ister said, "And now we'll have a few words of prayer." The wife looked at him and said in surprise, "But Sandy won't hear a word." "No," replied the minister, "but it' s not Sandy I'll be speak- ingto."
