Port Perry came out strong in the overtime period. They had a few good chances, including a breakaway by Matt MacMaster where he was robbed by the Bancroft goalie. But Port came right back. Matt gave the Mini- Mo's the championship on his goal midway through the over- time period. Grant and Wade made t efforts to get the puck to Matt. Wade took the M.V.P. trophy in the e. At the conclusion of the tour- nament, Sean Jeffrey was pre- sented with the most valuable player award for the tourna- ment. Sean played extremely well, both offensively and de- fensively throughout all three games. work, Sean, Whitby won the champion- ship game over Uxbridge, played after the Mini-Mo's win. In league play, the Mini-Mo's were in Uxbridge on Saturday and came away with a 3-0 win. Chris Thompson turned away all of Uxbridge's shots to earn the shutout. Joey Van Camp opened the scoring early in the first period when he converted a pass from Steve Wygerde who received the puck Sean Jeffrey. Scott Cunningham made the score 2- 0 late in the first with an unas- sisted effort. Steve finished off Port Perry's offence in the second pe- riod. Joey earned the assist. The boys have been playing well over the last few games. Forechecking hard and back- checking well when the opposi- tion do manage to get the puck out of their zone. First it was Jay Fletcher from Ashley" Van Sheldon and Travis Pick- . ard. Then Fletcher again from Tom Keeble and finally Pickard from Van Sheldon. Down by two goals Big V fought hard to get back in the game and it paid off as Scott Sanderson completed the hat trick making it 5-4 with assists to Scott Havver and Brad Monsma. Not to be out- done Jay Fletcher picked up his hat trick with Tom Keeble as- sisting on the play to finish the games scoring off and give Scala the 6-4 win. gl In Pee Wee house league ac- tion'on Dec. 29, Scala and Big V met up in an exhibition encoun- ter. Both teams were missing some of their key players but still put on an excellent show for thefans. 2 . Jon Chambers in. the Scala net made some excellent saves as well as did Big V's goalie Doug. Short who stopped nu- 'merous' breakaways. Scala "broke out on top first as Ashle Van Sheldon scored unassisted. Big V tied the game at 1-1 as Brad Monsma scored on a nice pass from Scott Harper. The second period had Scala regain their lead as Ashley Van Shel- don scored again unassisted. Big V once again came back to tie the score at 2-2 as Scott San- derson fed a pass from behind the Scala net out front to Lisa Bonser and she made no mis- - take tucking it into the corner of the net. The third period belonged to the goalies as they both came up big shutting down all oncomers. With a scoreless third period the two teams settled for a high- lyentertaining 2-2 tie. Scala squad bows out in tournament final On Dec. 30, Scala Bros. Pee Wee house league team trav- elled to Oakwood for a one day tournament: In game one Scala met Sunderland and came out winners 3-2 in overtime. Scor- ing for Scala was Paul Shrigley from Ian Parliament and Ron Calvin. Ashley Van Sheldon from Paul Brain and Adam Ma- haffey. Ashley scored the win- -ner in the first overtime on a nice setup from Parliament. Game Two matched two ri- vals from the Port Perry league and was by far one of the best ames of the tourney. Luke imal opened the scoring un- assisted going end-to-end. Ian Parliament tied the game at one on assists from Jon Chambers and Tom Baker. Spencer Bedell from John Reid and Keith Han- cock from Tyler Wooten gave Emiel's a 3-1 lead. In the third Jon Froats from Ashley and Ian Parliament from Ashley knot- ted the score at three. In the first overtime both teams had good chances only to be turned away by Tom Keeble - and Corey Branton.-In the sec- ond overtime Branton came up big again, with only three skat- ers per team. Ashley took a break-away pass from David Kaminga and put it inthe top corner over a: sprawling: Bran- ton to end the game. This con- test was filled with end-to-end rushes, fine goal tending; and od defensive play. Excellent game, Emiel's. : | Scala. then met Barrie in the "A" final but were too bushed to form any kind of an attack. Bar- rie won 9-0, but our team showed plenty of class by giving it their all right to the end. Goal- tenders: Jon Chambers' excel- lent showing in Game One and Tom Keeble in Game Two kept us in there to reach the final.
