"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" A PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 5, 1993 - 27 = 9 Manvers Tweens win 6-2 On Wednesday, Dec. 30 the Caygone Skate Sharpening Tween team from Manvers went down the road again, this time to take on the pesky Bob- caygeon Tweens in their own barn. Bobcaygeon got on the scoresheet first when they beat the rookie Manvers goalie on a nice two-on-one play at the 12 minute mark of the opening pe- riod. Less than one minutes lat- er Manvers started doing what they do best, they took the play right to Bobcaygeon. Kendra Clarke grabbed the ring at cen- tre ice, fed a nice pass over the blue line to Lisa Nesbitt, into the slot to Miranda Small and "Say Good Night Ralph." She's all tied up. At 8:18 Leann Mor- gan feathered a nice pass over to Jaime Bethune at centre, over to Mandy Richmond in the Bobca n zone, in front of the net to Krista Cameron who beat the goalie on a low hard shot to the corner for the go ahead goal. With Manvers ahead 2-1 and the period winding down the clock showed 11 clicks remain- ing when Jaime Bethune hit Al- lison Chapman streaking over the Bobcaygeon blue line, in front to Krista Cameron cruis- ing all alone in the slot and "See You Later!" Manvers takes a commanding 3-1lead. It didn't take Manvers' potent ~ power play long to get the sec- ond period going, when they cranked up the heat a notch and a half when Leann Morgan in- tercepted a Bobcaygeon clear- ing pass, spun around and fired a pass to Linsey Ingram flying over the blue line, and over to - - .Jaime Bethune who slammed one deep into the back of the « Bobcaygeon. .net ;past 8. 8Ur., .. ... prised goalie to make the score - 1.+4-1 in Manvers' favor. Peewee action Last Saturday, The Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee No. 2 team travelled to Lakefield for a one-day tournament. In the first game the boys were up against Bancroft. They had pre- viously beaten this team in the Bancroft Tournament and prob- ably thought this would be an easy game. Wrong! In fact, Ban- croft took a much deserved lead late in the first period and were out hustling Port. In the second Port managed to tie the game on a goal from Justin Halligan which was un- assisted. The third was an en- tertaining period with Port get- ting the go ahead goal from Ashley Vanschelven with an as- gist to Jeremy Gibson. Bancroft fought back and tied the game late in the third to force a shoot- out to decide the winner. The goaltenders stood tall in this shoot-out as of the three shoot- érs for each team only Ryan Puckrin was the only one to goore to give Port the 3-2 victo- rv. Excellent goal tending from Doug Short who was called up for the tournament. In the second game The Doors were up against North Minister from Peterborough. The game remained scoreless until the third period when North Minis- ter took the lead. They scored a second goal late in the period to geal a 2-0 victory. This loss put Port out of the tournament. Allison Chapman made a nice pass to Krista Cameron at the centre ice circle, and with a quick lead pass hit Mandy Rich- mond in the Bobcaygeon zone and "She Scores". Yes! Mandy scores to give Manvers a 5-2 lead. With the game almost over Miranda Small kept the ring in the Bobcaygeon zone, be- hind the net to ndy Rich- mond, out front to Krista Came- ron and she "blasts" one past a sprawling goalie to make the score 6-2. The buzzer sounds to end the game and "She's All Over Folks." Playing in goal for Manvers was Michele Branton. Honorable mention for Good Hustle goes to Linsey Ingram. Honorable mention for Good Defensive Effort goes to Leann Morgan. Remember Girls: Team Work, Hard Work and Dedica- tion is a combination hard to beat. Manvers win, loss record stands at seven and two. Nice going girls.
