The big star of the night was' Luke Carnaghan who enjoyed a shutout, as his teammates racked up 10 goals before it was over. . Goals and assists went to Shane Norton, one goal, two as- sists; Seth Gray two goals, one assist; Mike Morden two goals, two assists, Scott Jeffrey one goal, one assist; Daryl McEna- ney two goals, two assists; Scott Heffern one goal, one assist; Adam Jones one goal, one as- sist; Rob Murphy one assist; Danny Lyons one assist, and Jay Strickert three assists. Then on Tuesday, we visited | Whitby where we had a 5-0 lead but had to scramble to win 7-5. Whitby occupied the penalty . box most of the first and second periods, but after they stopped ". taking penalties they played catch up hockey. Danny Lyons opened the | scoring early with an assist to Seth Gray and eight minutes later, Daryl McEnaney set up Scott Heffern. Early in the sec- ond, Mike Morden got our third from Danny Robinson and Seth. Daryl then added two, one be- ing assisted by Adam Jones, and then Danny Robinson tipped one in with an assist to Mike Morden. Scott Heffern added his second unassisted to round out the scoring. After much turkey and too much good cheer, we took off to Pickering for a tournament and opened against Bowmanville. ree minutes into the game, Daryl McEnaney took a shot from the point, Scott Heffern took another one and Shane Norton finally slipped it by the goalie for the first and only goal. Kent Johnston was having a great game, coming up with fan- tastic 'saves, until three min- utes into the third when Bow- manville tied it. One minute later, Bowman- ville got another two on one breakaway and added their fi- nal. Panic then set in and as hard as we tried, we couldn't tie it. Excellent game Kent and congratulations on being namedM.V.P, 3 That night we met Markham and unloaded on them 11-0. Luke Carnaghan earned a well deserved shutout. Good job Luke. Scoring was done by Shane Norton, a hat trick and two assists, Seth Gray two goals, one assist, Mike Morden one goal, one assist; Danny Lyons one goal, two assists; Adam Jones two goals, one as- sist; Scott Heffern one goal, one assist; Scott Jeffrey one goal, one assist; Daryl McEnaney five assists, Rob Murphy two as- sists, and Jay Strickert one as- sist, Daryl McEnaney was se- lected M.V.P. Our third game started out rather slowly and it didn't look as though we would ever get on track. We got our first in the middle of the second, when Scott Jeffrey and the goalie raced head on for the puck. The goalie got there first but missed the puck when he went to shoot it away. He fell and he and Scott tumbled over each other, but Scott finally directed it into the net. We tried a five on three power play and managed about two shots on goal, which shows the type of game it was. The third period was a differ- ent story as we netted five in Just over two minutes. The re- -ferees did not keep very close track of assists but some were recorded. Goals went to Scott Heffern, Shane Norton, Rob Murphy, Danny Lyons and Seth Gray. The few assists were credited to Adam Jones, Seth, Mike Mord- en and Danny Robinson, who was named as M.V.P. This put us into the championship on Tuesday and the result's will be in next week's paper. The Legion Pee Wees ended the year of 1992 in grand style and championship games of the Pickering tournament. Al- though the final game sheet has gone astray, the boys won it 4-1 and the semi-final 5-1. Atom As holiday After three weeks of relative inactivity due to cancelled games and a slow league sched- ule over the holidays, the Atoms were on their way to Oshawa on the 27th for their second tour- nament of the year. The first game was against Aurora and the lack of game time and probably a little too much holiday fare resulted in the expected, a real turkey of a game. The Aurora boys must have liked theirs as well because they couldn't put us away even as bad as we played. Chad Lance scored his second goal of the game with a minute and a half to go to tie the game at 2-2 and that's the way itended. Brad Johnston got the game MVP. The next match was against an Oshawa team that hadn't - given us any problems before, but then again we weren't play- ing as good as we had done earli- erin the year. That fact was evi- dent early in the game as we quickly fell behind 4-0. Oshawa shouldn't have scored that fourth goal though. That goal plus coach Lee Wilbur's lecture on the bench started a come- back that nobody in the crowd anticipated. When it was all over Oshawa had been held to just a couple of shots for the rest of the game and Port scored no less than seven unanswered goals to win going away 7-4. All three lines contributed to the scoring and Brett Clouthier scooped a well deserved MVP award. , Our next game was against Oshawa Red Wings whom we had beaten handily just before the holidays. This team was touted as being the best from Oshawa though so we had to be ready. And ready they were as they won 5-3 without too much of a problem. Brett was again the game MVP. ith this win Port won their division and were starting to look like they could do quite wellin this tournament. The Atoms got a by for being first and had to wait until they got to the rink the next day to ind out they were playing Stouffville. An excellent game resulted between these two old rivals with Stouffville drawing first blood. Both teams settled into a fast paced game but nobody could score. With less than a minute left, Port pulled the goalie and Brad Johnston was sént into the big melee down in Stouff- ville's end. A slap of the puck and a couple of bounces later and Brad had sent the game into overtime. The O/T didn't last too long however, as a bad angle shot and a bad bounce off our goalie gave Stouffville the win and that was all she wrote for Port. Mike MacLennan got the game MVP. Good tournament boys. P.S. Oshawa Red Wings beat Stouffville in O/T to win the A final. Saturday the Atoms went to Lindsay for a league game and Scott Heffern was selected M.V.P. for the team and re- ceived a beautiful trophy witha clock on it. Luke Carnaghan handled the goal tending in the semi-final and Kent Johnston in the final. Good job, guys. Shane Norton got our second and Rob Murphy our third. they were all pumped up trom the tournament. Right? Wrong. 'They got behind early and stayed Core until the end of the second period when they caught a break, the zamboni came out for a flood and that gave coach yet another tuneup. Greg later scored his second of the game to tie at 3-3 and that was the final. Murphy and Brett drew the assists. Sunday night we visited Ajax and the fans were treated to a much better game. Eaglettes victorious The Port Perry XL Gas Bar Novice Girls readied them- selves for next week's Port Perry ringette tournament with a tune-up match on Saturday in Markham against their novice team. With Jill Pashley be- tween the pipes, and stopping everything that came her way, the Eaglettes showed they're well prepared with a 9-0 victo- ry, giving Jill her first shutout of the year. Due to the holidays and the flu bug, we were minus three players as Kristen Waller, Alai- na Burger and Rhea Baxter did not play. But that gave the coaches a chance to go with two "full lines and the move paid off as seven girls were involved in the scoring.
