12- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 19, 1993 Annual Bowl For Millions The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association of North Durham has pinned down a fun way to raise money for its organiza- tion. The association will once again be hosting its annual Bowl For Millions Bowl-a-thon. This year, the week-long fund- raiser will be held February 6- 13 at Centennial Lanes in Port Perry and the Uxbridge Bowl- ing Alley. A Celebrity Day Bowl will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13. Local businesses, service clubs, pro- fessional groups and schools are encouraged to form teams, col- lect pledges and participate in the fun event. Organizers are hoping to raise about $200 in pledges per team. Councillors from Scugog, Ux- bridge and Brock Townships participate in the Celebrity Day Bowl each year and try to bowl each other over in a bid for the covetted Champion Township trophy. This year, the council- lors will bowl at the Uxbridge lanesat 3 p.m. League bowlers are also wel- come to participate in the Bowl For Millions Bowl-a-thon by bowlirig on their regular league nights during the week of Feb- - ruary 6-13. Prizes are awarded to the in- dividuals who collect the most money in pledges. Prizes include a $1,000 gift certificate for furniture, a 10 cu- bic foot Woods freezer, a queen size quilt and pillow shams, and . agoose down duvet. Prizes have been donated by Homestead Furniture in Port Perry and K- Fab Products in Woodbridge. The top fundraiser will have first choice of the prizes. The Bowl For Millions event is the organization's major source of income for the year. The associa- tion receives no financial sup-- port from the United Way and is dependent upon the success of its fundraising efforts, such as the Bowl For Millions Bowl-a- thon. The' association helps chil- dren aged six to 18. Many of the children come from single par- ent families.
