Once January has slipped off the calendar nothing can ever be quite the same again. There is something about February that stirs the heart with joy. It is a unique month.. being the shortest month of the year, we have many exciting features about February.. heart month, groundhog day, pancake Tues- day, White Cane month, Valen- tine's Day and sauerkraut month.. and it moves quickly along getting nearer to Spring. Each day is a new beginnin and there is one thing we are al eager for and that is a good 1993. Nestleton U.C.W. Evening Unit The evening Unit met at the home of Kay Notman with Jan- ice MacKenzie opening the meeting with a humourous sto- ry re: the president. General President Karen Yellowlees gave the dates for the Commu- nity Care senior luncheons.. March 4, July 1, and Nov. 4. Plans were made for the menu for the Corn Producers meeting to be held at Nestleton Commu- N\ nity Centre on Thursday, Jan. Further events were dis- cussed. The Oshawa Presbyte- rial meeting was held at Colum- bus ULited Church on Jan. 18. Theme of the meeting, "Healing the Hurt." Kay Notman presented the statement of the treasurer. Joanna Malcolm will purchase felt for the chair legs in the basement. A bale of warm cloth- ing and blankets for Rotarians for Croatia. Please put in plas- tic bags. Karen Yellowlees was thanked for taking the church Christmas tree down by herself. The Unit will be making items for the second annual variety night at their monthly meet- ings. Kay served a lovely des- sert before the members left for home and a word of apprecia- tion was given to the hostess Kay! Caesarea News John and adjoining streets were full of cars last Monday evening when the Ist Cart- wright Beavers group (Scouts) had,.an interesting outing with parents on the ice rink. The weather was cold.. ice perfect, and all present had a great time. Many families here and there have taken off for a couple of weeks in the sunny south. We wish them well and hope they enjoy good weather for their winter holiday. Members are working hard re: the fireman club's fish derby set for Saturday, Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. til 6 p.m., and 7 a.m. until noon on Sunday, Feb. 7, 1993. Register at the main pier Cae- sarea. A pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, Feb. 7 from 7 a.m. -11a.m. Don't missit. Nestleton United Church A fine service on a stormy day at Nestleton United, Jan. 24, 11:15 a.m. with Chuck and Car- ol Hill and son Matthew the friendly greeters at the door. Rev. Dale Davis opened the service with Call to Worship, Prayer and Hymn "Jesus Calls Us" was sung. The children's theme was great with the small fry gathered around Rev. The Notman sisters, Claire and Jennifer, sang to an appre- ciative congregation harmoniz- ing with a lovely number "Re- joice In God" with able pianist Katie Mairs at the piano. Offer- ing received by Chuck and Car- ol Hill and the Doxology was sung. Lastly, we sang a favorite "Jesus Is The Man" with a real swing to it, played by organist Karen Yellowlees. A pot luck luncheon at the Nestleton Annual Congrega- tional meeting next Sunday, Jan. 31, after the service. Please bring plates, mugs, cut- lery, besides your food. Family Concerns Neta Fish, Cadmus Road, and your truly, had a real visit one day this past week.. first You've Come a Long Way Baby HAPPY 50" Love - Bob, Shelley, Derek and Darryl calling at Victoria Manor in Lindsay, to see an old friend from the past, Wilson Heaslip, a a former resident of Janetville. He is looking fine and in good spirits. Then later we called on Ila Sharp, a cousin of Neta's and enjoyed a visit and a refreshin cup of tea with her, and ende the afternoon with a delicious dinner at the Bonfire before re- turning home. Sorry Heather Munro of Son- a isn't feeling too well. Sister- in-law Neta spent some time with her on Saturday. Our best wishes to Heather for better health. : Audrey and Jim Leishman and son Michael of Reaboro were dinner guests with Neta on Saturday evening. Your truly had a lovely sur- prise on Sunday afternoon when grandson Andrew Caw- ker dropped in for a visit and a cup of tea. So nice to see him!! Nestleton Presbyterian Church A small congregation met on a rainy Sunday with Rev. Fair- ley as minister and Joyce Tay- lor as organist. Responsive reading was Psalm 27 - David's faith upheld by the power of God. Children's story dealt with question "Why can't we see God?" Scripture reading Isaiah 42: 1-9 and Mat- thew 4: 12-25. The sermon pre- sented our real world of chal- lenges of hopes and fears., with the best way to deal with these by waiting on the Word.
