PETER HVIDSTEN / PORT PERRY STAR The Blackstock Agriculture Society held their annual meeting in the Blackstock Rec Centre January 21 and elected a new executive. Members of the executive include, from front left, past president Dale Van camp, Helen Coates, vice president homecraft, Leah Frew, fair president, Joyce Kelly, secretary/treasurer. Snow Queen and King crowned at Nursing Home By Margaret Cavill Adding a new outfit to your wardrobe always help to lift ones spirits and the residents - were able to do this on Tuesday (5) when Easy Living Clothing paid the home a'visit. An afternoon that is always popular with the residents is when they get together for tea and treats and read the newspa- pers to keep up with current" events and usually the conver- sation drifts to memories of days gone by and Wednesda (6) was no exception. After read- ing the newspapers the conver- sation turned to memories of trips and parties of days gone y. On Friday (8) the travel club met and took an armchair trip to Missouri courtesy of Barb Porter. This was an enjoyable afternoon for all and following their rip many attended Bible Care College under Mary Anne Elliott's leadership. The week of Jan. 11 was cer- tainly a busy one for all. Events of the week included sewer bowl (plungers were used as pins and toilet paper was used as the balls). High score single honors was taken by Becky Gray and Ed Donnelly. Two teams were formed calling themselves the Plungers and the Flushes. The Plungers were the winners by 10 points. "Tuesday was' declared Bliz- zard Day and in the afternoon a party was held. Games were played all of which were geared to the Blizzard theme. Snow- flake darts, snowstorm game (styrofoam chips were placed in a bag and each resident was asked to see how many snow- flakes they could pick up out of the bag with one hand. The win- ner of the guess the number of marshmallows in the jar was Olive Beacock with Ed Donnel- ly a close second. Margaret Charland was crowned Snow Queen and Ray Seager Snow King. The head table guests were President Ho- ward Gauthier, Area Councillor Harvey Graham, Past Presi- dent Bill Ingram, Scugog Mayor Howard Hall, Lion Don CIiff, Zone Chairman, M.P.P. for Dur- ham East, Gord Mills, and Lion Merv Bayley, treasurer. The guest speaker for the evening, Ross Stevenson, M.P. for Dur- ham was introduced by Lion Bill Ingram. Ross gave a very informative talk to the farmers answering many questions of concern to them. He was thanked by Lion Berney Smuk. Treasurer Lion Merv Bayley presented Zone Chairman Lion Don Cliff with the proceeds of the evening to go to the Lions Sight First Fund to aid their Blind Persons' Fund. Thanks was extended to the Lioness and Pathfinders for a delicious dinner well served. Three of our residents are currently in Oshawa Hospital. Better health is wished for Al- bert Watts, John Carnaghan and Bob Smith. Congratulations to Bill and Jean Ferguson on the arrival of a -granddaughter, a baby girl born to. their son Alan and his wife Shelly Ferguson- A fine crowd attended the an- nual - Blackstock Agricultural Society Annual Meeting held at "the Rec 'Centre . on.-a. nasty Thursdayevening."
