And a very positive result from the practic- es with the girls working on some new free-pass plays that were tried in the games and were successful in producing a couple of goals. Saturday's contest in Whitby, a close-checking 7 XH tie, exem- plified the play between these two teams all season. Whitby jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period and it looked like they finally had Port's number, but a quick goal with 16 seconds Bowling results . In the second period, the XL'ers fought back to take the lead, 7-6 with only two minutes left. But almost like a repeating script from a play, Whitby tied the game with only 33 seconds remaining. The big shooters for Port were Stacey Cunningham with four goals and Sarah Vers- chuuren with the hat trick. Rhea Baxter had three assists, with singles going to Shannon Warriner and Kristen Waller. Janna Ostafichuk played strong goal for Port and came up with some key saves when we needed them. The rest of the girls played a solid game and it showed that they can come back from a deficit, a position that has been rare for the team all season. In Sunday's game against a younger and weaker Scarbo- rough team, coach Virtue and Cunningham tried to balance the line-up to give the younger and steadily improving players a chance to play in the limelight and centre ice. The result pro- duced a balanced score sheet and a 16-3 win. R.R.#2, Blackstock, Ontario Hwy. 57 North of Bowmanville 986-4437 PUBLI Special thanks to Bob Layzell for a great job at score keeper. With a tired hand, he still manged to almost fill the whole sheet. And finding the score keeper's pen were Alaina Da- vis, Shannon Warriner, Alaina Burger, Sarah Verschuuren, Leanne Layzell, Katherine Cooke, and Rhea Baxter, all with a pair of goals; with sin- gles going to Stacey Cunning- ham and Heather Reid. Nicole Virtue, playing defence the whole game, chipped in with three assists and Kristen Wall- er, with several close chances, managed ane point with an as- sist. Janna played another strong game in goal and when tested, she stood her ground, or should that bei ice. With the playoffs starting this weekend and tournaments in Guelph and Oro on the hori- zon, the Eaglettes are improv- ing as a team and starting to de- velop some set plays that will be an asset in future games and individually. One can see the difference with stronger skat- ing skills and better ring han- dling and passing. Keep up the good work, girls! . - match to Whitby The Communit Nursin Home Petites travelled to Whit- by to play their No. 2 squad. Upon_ arriving we realized we would be four players short. Two girls went @ rth Bay to cheer on their sisters in Tween A. The other two were out due to illness. Luckily for the Wrink- lets the Port Novice had an ear- ly game in Whitby. Three of the Novice Players came to our res- cue. Thanks to Sarah Vers- chuuren, Stacey Cunningham, and Nicole Virtue. We Ingitaged ; tosuit a team. Sd All the girls did well in keep- ji ing pace with the Wh tby team. The girls had an on-going barg of shats on the Whitby goalie." But the girls found it hard to score, since there had been no. flood all morning. The shots were slowed down by the snow. We finally lifted one into the net when Stacey fed Leanne Holt a quick pass. Whitby was quick to return the goal. The real "challenge started when the Wrinklets SSEL STINE 'NOTIC After 22 years of selling Yamaha Snowmobiles, ATV's, Parts & Accessories...
