The MoJacks went into action in a three-way tie with the Ea- gles and the Lakefield Chiefs, each with 44 points and each a serious threat to frontrunners Little Britain. Bowmanville, who led the way for much of the regular sea- son, have not enjoyed great suc- cess facing Port Perry. In seven previous meetings, the MoJacks are five and two against the Eagles and un- doubtedly hoped to make it six and two. It was not to be, however, as the MoJacks dropped a 7-2 deci- sion to a better prepared, not to mention better rested Bowman- ville squad. Following a 3-2 loss in Bob- caygeon Friday and a 4-4 tie in Little Britain Saturday, it was Devious Ken Harman's club was tired. The Eagles took full advan- tage of Port's sluggishness, us- ing every opportunity to take the man or be first to the puck. Port Perry netminder Ian Cooper kept the game close in the first period, thwarting his former teammates on several occasions. The MoJacks actually led 1-0 for a short time when the three top scorers for Port Perry con- nected late in the first. Jody Logan took a Shannon Todd pass and went in on a two- on-one with Jim Vernon. Logan drew the defender before slid- ing the puck to Vernon who beat a sprawling Drew Campbell for his 28th goal of the season. The Eagles drew even just - over a minute later when some sloppy man coverage allowed Ryan Stewart to go in alone on Cooper. Stewart went high to the glove side for his first of twe on the night. The score remained tied until early in the second period. Bowmanville's Nick Dennis put his team ahead for good when he converted a feed from David Real at 1:55 of the middle stanza. } After goals by Shane Arm- strong and Stewart made it 4-1 Eagles, Port Perry clicked on the power play. Jeff Barr's shot from the point hit Jason Cochrane in front and found its way between the pads of Campbell to cut the Bowman- ville lead to two goals. In the third, Port Perry's fo- cus was shifted from its oppo- nent to the officiating as they began to get frustrated with some borderline calls and non- calls by the referee. When Armstrong scored his second of the night, Jason Co- chrane voiced his displeasure and was promptly served with a 10 minute misconduct penalty. Now ahead by three, the Ea- gles stifled Port Perry's offence. Campbell made the saves when he had to and Todd Cannings put an exclamation point on the win with two goals to make for a 7-2 final. The win gives Bowmanville 46 points and with three games to play, a legitimate shot at re- capturing first place overall. On the other hand, Port Perry's hopes of a first-place fin- ish were dashed with the loss. Second place is still up for grabs as the MoJacks prepare for their final two games this week- "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Tired MoJacks go winless in a three-game weekend end. Harman's team travels to Lit- tle Britain Saturday for a game that had to be rescheduled due to problems with the Merchants ice surface in mid-January. The following night, the Mo- Jacks finish the regular season in Lakefield against the Chiefs who are also involved in the tight race for second place. As Harman stated last week, the MoJacks "want to be in the top three." Finishing in the top half of the standings assures them home-ice-advantage in the first round of the playoffs al- though, considering the sparse crowds at Scugog arena this year, the home ice may not be much of a factor.
