USC also had 16 senior swim- mers compete this weekend at the Ontario Provincial Senior Championship in Etobicoke. Of our 16 competitors 6 made it to either the consolation (9th to 16th) or finals (1st to 8th) swims in the evening-a very sig- nificant accomplishment when some events had 125 swim- mers! YMCA floor hockey Junior The Leafs and the Canadiens played to a 4-2 final score in fa- vor of the Leafs on Monday, Jan. 25. : Tyler Houthuys started things off for the Canadiens in the first period. David Halward scored the Leafs tying goal late in the first period. In the second period of this ~ two period game David Hal- ward fired in two more goals to give him a hat trick. Lindsay Carr added one more for the Leafs, bringing their total to four. Tyler Houthuys scored the Canadiens second goal. Intermediate The first Intermediate game saw the Red Wings meet the Golden Rods. The score of 6-0 in favor of the Golden Rods was not representative of the pla throughout this game. t teams played fine floor hockey and all pla ers were active in end to end play. Chris Langford fired in two goals for the Golden Rods in the firat period. The second goal was on an aselst from Daigen Miller. Chris Murphy po in oal number three and Hobert vans racked up number four with one of the most unique goals ever seen. Ryan Appleton and Chris Langford were the two third period goal scorers. This goal gave Chris a hat trick. The second Intermediate game was a match between the Blue Bombers and the Mighty Ducks. Blue Bombers 6 - Mighty Ducks 11. The first period ended in a three all tie. Matthew MacMas- ter started things off for the Blue Bombers with two goals . and Jonathon Rogalski added the third. Scoring for the Mighty Ducks were Matt Brown, Evan Ber- trand and Jason Lown. Mat- thew MacMaster earned him- self a hat trick by scoring the Bombers only second period goal. Ryan Jansen popped in goal number four for the Mighty Ducks with Evan Bertrand fir- ing in numbers five and six. Evan's first, second period goal was assisted by Eric Bird. The third period turned out to be a busy one with Jeff Kane and Adam Youmans scoring for the Bombers. Matt Brown, Eric Bird, Jason Lown (two goals), and Evan Bertrand all scored in the third period for the Mighty Ducks. .Evan Bertrand and Jason Lown both earned a hat trick in this game. IGA Juniors tie On Friday night, Port IGA Juniors played Pickering. First period Port came on fhtong with excellent passing. Vicki Stain- ton put Port on the board assist- ed by Lynda Payne. Pickering came back and scored two goals. Going into the second period Port was going to catch up. Lynda scored goal two, assist- ed by Kim Gardner and Vicki. Goal three came from Sarah Coyne, assisted by Jenny Storms and Lynda. Sarah pro- vided another excellent goal as- sisted by Heather Lally and Lisa Dodd. Pickering tried to beat Port but a good game from Melissa Pereman our goalie, only ended in a tie. Port IGA Juniors had a busy weekend of Ringette. Sunday, Port played Ajax. Port was play- ing a strong game, against Ajax, but seemed to tire quickly. Sa- rah Coyne slid the ring in the net assisted by Heather Lally. Kim Gardner put goal two in, assisted by Melissa Pereman. Ajax scored goal one ending the 1st period Port 2 - Ajax 1. The game looked favorable for Port until Ajax came alive with 4 goals. Heather Lally scored goal three assisted by Lindsey Patton. Last weekend had two players in North Bay and two in sick bay. With a full compliment Port was looking for revenge after a previous defeat to a Whitby team. } : Melissa Hooker got Port started on the first shift of the game when she lifted a shot into the top corner after being set up by Miranda Burgess. On the next shift, Jennifer Imrie stepped in from her de- fensive position to complete a pass from Alicia Burgess and Port was on its way. . Jennifer Donnelly made the score 3-0 in favour of the "wrin- kles" girls when Leanne Davi- son centred the ring from the side boards. Whitby, not wanting to get run out of the rink, struck back for one making sure the C.N.H." girls did not become compla- cent. Stretching the lead was Lisa Lafort 'when she slid one through the five hole on a lead pass from Julia Leamen. Then on her next shift, Julia set up Jennifer Imrie and the period ended with Port in the lead 5-1. Whitby notched a second, but Jennifer Donnelly's second goal, this one from Melissa had Port back on track. From this point the teams were exchang- ing goals. Leanne Davison found the net, assisting was Jennifer Im- rie. The next goal was scored by #14 and set up by Leanne Holt (who is number 14? Ask the ref! We need clarification on this one). The final goal went to Me- lissa unassisted giving Port a 9- 4 win. Not making the game sheet in the scoring column but con- tributing standout defensive play were Cathy Cooper and La- uren Christie.
