38 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 2, 1993 Techstars defeat Uxbridge 9-0 On Saturday night the Ban- tam II Techstars played their first playoff game and beat Ux- bridge 9-0. The first period saw a lot of end to end hockey by both teams, but Uxbridge only had two shots in comparison to our nine. At the 13:20 mark Todd Parry one-timed the puck to beat the Uxbridge goalie. Matt Hobbs set up a great pass on this goal. Trevor Smith was playing a very offensive defence game and he accounted for four 'of our shots on net. The "Stars" came out flying in the second period and pushed our lead to 7-0 by the end of the period. Greg Thompson scored on a quick rebound to catch the goal- ie before he could get on hjs feet. Jon Jamieson scored our next goal on a shorthanded play. Matt Hobbs made one of his eat moves on the Uxbridge de- ence and caught Jon's stick right on the sweet spot. At the 8:48 mark Darryl Moase showed us what an amazing slapshot he has as he caught the bottom corner of the Uxbridge net. Brad Morton made a solid pass to Darryl to set this one up. Defenceman Gord Bentley made it goal num- ber five on a "zinger" from the point. Then Matt Hobbs caulked up his own goal on a quickend toend rush. With four minutes left in the period Jeff Jamieson hit the top corner to score again for the "Stars" after a nice passing play from Devon Blair and Tod Par. ry. * In the final period Brad Mor- ton caught the goalie sleeping on a nice wrist shot and Matt Phillips ended the game with our ninth goal. This game showed how well all our boys are playing as every forward who was playing in this game scored a goal and one defence- man. Dylan Ferguson tended our goal and did not face a lot of shots, but had to be sharp on three in particular to maintain his shutout. Nice work Dylan! The boys play again in Port on Wednesday night at 9:15 p.m. and we hope to make it our second win of our round robin series. Bantam As lose consolation final On the last wintery weekend in January, the Country Style Bantam A's participated in a tournament in Beaverton. The early morning, longer than usu- al ride seemed to set the mo- mentum for the first game. The boys had some difficulty getting into the fast moving pace that the Bracebridge team set. The power line did some good hustling and were responsible for all four goals. Ian Shrigley had two goals and an assist. Craig Laird had a goal and two assists. Jay King, also had a goal. Assists went to Jeremy Geer with two and Kenton Le- fort, one. M.V.P. for this game was lan Shrigley. Later in the day, the Country Style Donut boys beat a team * from Vaughan 7-1. Scoring for this game were: Kenton and Jay, two each; Jeremy, Chris Drury and Mark Brownson, Da- ryl Bourgeois, Ian Shrigley, and Jay. This win put the team into the B Championship on Sun- day. For this game they met a quick moving and hard hitting team from Ernestown. The Country Style boys played a sol- id game and met this team head on. Unfortunately the Ban- tams, try as they did numerous times, could only get one goal. Billy Zaparanuik scored this one with assists going to Jay and Craig. While the Ernes- town players, knew where to be to get that rebound, several times and come out the win- ners. Scott Prechitko played a good game between the pipes. M.V.P. for the second game was Jay King and for the last game Craig Laird. The Country Style Bantams begin their playoffs Monday Feb. 1in Milton. Guardian Drugs Tweens win 5-2 Very early Sunday morning the Guardian Drug Tween "A"s were up for a practice to pre- pare them for game one of the season's playoffs. Some of the girls had rested between the practice and game time and were ready for their opposition. Five minutes into the first peri- od Janine Hammond passed the ring up to Dana Hooker who netted her first goal. Port Perry took the lead over Whitby. Sho- na Moase-began her hat trick with a goal that was assisted by Bonni-Jo Norton. Everyone was playing strongly-a together team effort. As the second period started, Shona Moase. and Bonni-Jo Norton clicked again with a fine set-up from Natasha Burgess. Natasha Burgess and Cara Vander Slagt added hustle and quick thinking throughout this contest. Jenna Senyk and Brooke Shanley also helped to make up for absent players by digging and checking non-stop. The girls shared offensive and defensive positions unselfishly. With seven minutes left the Guardian Tweens again lit up the scoreboard as Dana Hooker, Shona Moase and Janine Ham- mond combined their skills from a rush down-ice. The final score was 5-2. Katie Senyk kept her goal against average down, working well with the steady defense in front of her. Port Perry Snowmobile Club members took part in a marathon ride Sunday. Proceeds from the event will be turned over to the Community Memorial Hospital building fund. Some of the riders participating in the event included (front) Jason and Denver Dillon, (back) Ray Brown, Gary Hunter, Marion Lee, Ed Carrigan, and Mark Lott.
