The playoff for- mat for 'BB' teams had Port get- ting a bye in the first round waiting for the winner of a Col- lingwood vs Midland series. In the meantime the Atoms have been playing exhibition games trying to stay sharp for their start in the playoffs some- time in mid February and for their home tournament on Feb. 20. In the five exhibition games the boys have wins against Whitby 6-2 and Ajax 4-2. In both of these games Port didn't have too much of a problem scoring goals and controllin the play, but in a home and: home series against Stouffville on the weekend the Atoms dropped both games 3-1 and 4- 1. Brad Johnston and Ryan - McQuade were the only ones to find the twine in these matches. Jeff Ashton had two assists, with Brad and Greg Bruton each pickingup one. Against Whitby the goal scor- ers were Ryan with the hat trick, Braden Tarbotton with two and Nick Pelyk. Assists went to Brett Clouthier three, Chad Lance two, Nick, Jeff, Ryan, Brad, Murphy Irvine. | ORT PERRY auto glass & trum no. It was a tough battle all the way as Stouffville hit the post once and missed several key chances to score. Kent Johnston stood tough and turned away numerous sure goals. Our first goal came on a scramble around the front of the net as Adam Jones tipped it in with an assist to Scott Jeffery. Shane Norton our second with assists to Daryl MeEnaney and Danny Lyons, and Ro Murphy broke in on goal for the third, after a pass from Scott Jeffrey, The second period ended 3-0 and there was no scoring in the third. All boys had lots of chanc- es but a tough Stouffville goalie denied them fame. A short break will give the boys a chance to rest up for the second round, where, no one knows. Midget Bs take 2-0 series lead over Ennismore Game 1-Feb.1 The Islanders started their playoffs with a 5-3 victory at Scugog Arena. Chad Garvock opened the scoring at the 11:02 mark with a tip-in of Mike Sluggett's shot from the point. Dave Pashley also drew an assist. A mere 14 seconds past before Ennismore tied the score at 1-1. The second period started with the score still 1-1, but the Isles took command and scored three in a row to take a 4-1. Goals by Mike Williams, Scott Wylie and Jason Kane. Assists to Mike Sluggett (two), Kane, Garvock, Williams, and Pere- man. It looked like the 4-11lead would hold up but a couple of pen- alties and a couple of goals late in the third by Ennismore made the score 4-3 with 27 seconds left. Ennismore took the puck into the Isles zone with their net empty on the ensuing faceoff. Mark Cosway worked the puck down the right side and scored to make the final 5-3. Assists to Lou Whitfield and Scott Wylie. 2 Game 2- Feb. § in Ennismore This game started out as if the night would be spent in the penalty box. The Isles showed restraint and let Ennismore continue their skate to the penalty box. Scott Wylie gave the Isles a 1-0 first period lead on a pass from Jeff Vernon. In the second period Andrew Pereman connected to give the Isles a 2-0 lead. Assists to Wylie and Vernon. Ennismore took a five minute spearing intent to injure pen- alty and this allowed the Isles to fire a couple of goals. Goals by Cosway and Pereman with an assist to Garvock. Ennismore managed one goal in the second period to make the score 4-1 after two periods. In the third period Mike Staniland stripped an Ennismore defenceman of the puck and broke in from the blue line and made no mistake putting it in the open side of the net. The fi- nal score was 5-1. Isles lead the series 2-0 with the next game in Ennismore Feb. 8 and back in Port Perry Feb. 13. : Keep up the good work! ---- Player of the Week Wayne "Foxy Fox Scugog Mens Hockey League Van & Truck World Sharks VAN & TRUCK AWORLD 1670 Simcoe St., N. 1050 Brock Rd.
