! "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 16, 1993 - 19 The Borelians Community Theatre of Port Perry will be presenting the play "Night of January 16th" beginning Feb- ruary 26 at Town Hall 1878. "The Night of January 16th" 18 a courtroom drama/comedy written by Ayn Rand in 1934. The play centres around Kar- en Andre, a young woman who 18 placed on trial in New York City, for the murder of her lover Bjorn Faulkner. Eleven witnesses including a doctor, housekeeper, 'detective, policeman and gangster testify Although it's only the first month of a new year, positive signs are already starting to ap- pear in the buildingindustry. For the month of January sev- en building permits were issued in the Township of Scugog. This 1s up from two a year earlier. ~The value for the permits also increased substantially. The to- tal permit values for the month was $367,500. This was up from $251,600 from the previous year. Leading the way in terms of value and number were single family dwellings. Two permits were issued last month at a val- ue of $175,000. None were is- sued for the same period last year. One permit, valued at $10,000, was for single family dwellings, additions and altera- ns. on behalf of defense attorney Catherine Stevens and prosecu- tor Harrison Flint. A different jury is selected from the audience each night, and depending on its guilty or non-guilty verdict there is a dif- ferent ending to the play. The audience will be part of the actu- al courtroom. The play is entered in the Art- Co Festival and will be adjudi- cated on Friday, March 5. Dave Ellis is the producer' director of the play and stage Building permits up in January Commercial additions and al- terations also showed a marked improvement over last year. Two permits at a value of $32,000 were issued in Janu- ary, up from the one permit val- ued at $1,500 for the period in 1992. The only disappointing point for the month of January was in the industrial/agricultural building sector. One permit was issued last month at a value of $150,000. This is down from the one permit with a value of $250,000in January,1992. This positive start to the year is a continuation of a trend that prevailed throughout the past few months of 1992. Permits for December &f 1992 were valued at $765,000, up from the same month's figure in 1991 of $295,600.
