The boys participated in a number of fun events. See story for de- Winter Fun Day for Beavers The Pine Ridge District Bea- ver Winter Fun Day was hosted by 1st Greenbank Colony on Sunday, Feb. 7. The boys partic- 1pated in an afternoon of skat- ing, tobogganing, snow paint- Ing, cookie masterpiece making, an obstacle course, na- ture hike, and a sing-song around the fire. Fun was had by all the boys, the leaders, and the parent volunteers. As a keep- sake of this day, each person re- ceived a beautifully colored crest. Special thanks goes to: all the colony leaders for their team work contribution to making the afternoon such an enjoyable success for the boys; to 1st Greenbank Colony leaders and especially Carol Couch for all the time and effort put into the organization of the Winter Fun Day; to Rod Couch for all his time doing the facility prepara- tion; to Keith Durward for sup- plying the hay and wagon ride; 'to Bev Geer for contributing the pictures for the paper; and to all the parent's who participated with their son's colony. Cubs go on winter expedition On Saturday afternoon the 1st Port Perry Cubs went on a winter expedition at Nonquon Conservation Area. With Scouter Don Farquhar- son as our guide and instructor the Cubs went on a_ ramble through the forest observing an- imal tracks and feeding the birds. The Cubs were then treated to hot chocolate and then learned about some of the condi- tions that affect the weather changes. They found this most interesting and were able to participate in some of the exper- iments. After getting warmed the boys then faced the challenge of snow shoes but this proved Divorce & separation discussion Separation or divorce is a family crisis which affects all members in different ways. Of- ten the parents themselves are hardly able to cope with their own situation, and may be too emotionally drained to provide the support teenagers need to deal with their own unique challenges at this time. The Family Education Re- source Centre of Durham House is offering this four ses- sion workshop for teens from 10-14 years to help them cope with their parents' separation or divorce. There will be opportunities to share common concerns and to realize that there are other teens who have gone through the same process. The workshop will be held at Sir Albert Love School, 426 Wil- son Rd., Oshawa from 6:45 - 8:46 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25. The cost is $32. For more infor- mation and to register for this workshop please call the centre at 579-2021, more of a challenge for the adults. Last weekend the boys partic- ipated in the Annual Pine Ridge Ice Fishing Derby. Although the temperature ;was low the enthusiasm of the boys was high. Our next event will be the An- nual Kub Kar Rally at Branch 419 Legion starting Monday, Feb. 22 with Port Perry racing Feb. 26. Our Cub Pack has grown to 34 boys with three new chums joing thi eek. Mémbers can train up to six days a week, Monday through Saturday, days and evenings. On average members will train twice a week, but some turn out up to four times a week.
