Best wish- on fo fy el Silver Medal Winner Congratulations to Avril Walker of Scugog Point, who re- cently competed at the Ux- bridge Invitational Figure Skating Competition. Avril who represents the Port Perry Skat- ing Club and is coached by Ka- thy Snazel, skated to a second place finish in the Pre-Juvenile Ladies B Flight 2, earning her a silver medal and qualifying her to compete in the final. Way to go Avril - keep up the good work! Evening Unit of the Nestleton UCW The evening unit of the Nes- tleton UCW was held on Wednesday at the home of Kar- en Yellowlees. Janice MacKen- zie opened the meeting with hymn "Love is a Circle, Round and Round". The new United Church cookbook was passed around and members decided to purchase fifty copies to sell. The menu for the upcoming luncheon was decided. Joanna Malcolm gave an excellent de- votional "The Meaning - of Friendship". She closed with a poem, "Why God Made Friends." A tempting lunch was served by hostess Karen Yel- lowlees at the close. Nestleton United Church On a bright winter morning a fair congregation turned out with Chris Davis and Mabel Cawker greeting the worship- pers at the door. Rev. Dale Da- vis conducted the Service. The prelude was a flute and clarinet ensemble with Jennifer Ar- buckle, Claire Notman, Les. MacKenzie and Pam Wood- ward taking part. The many lit- tle children enjoyed their story told by Rev. Davis about "Rules". The minister's sermon re-"Valentine Day" was inter- esting...down to earth...with plenty of ideas to take home. It was based on Deuteronomy and Matthew read by Karen Wa- ters. The youth choir sang a number with Katie Mairs on the piano. Offering was taken by Chris and Mabel and the Doxology was sung. Before clos- ing The Lord's Prayer was sung...Benediction and Three Fold Amen. Scugog Chri The Kindergarten and Grade 1 children have been studying about farm animals. Now, after all their hard work, the children are looking forward to their tour of a sheep farm, goat farm and a dairy farm. They are espe- cially excited about having lunch at the home of their teach- er, Mrs. Siebenga. Last week the Grade 2 and 3 students were privileged to visit with some of the patients in the chronic care unit of the hospital. The children and patients had lunch together, and then the students shared some songs and a message with the pa- tients. The class is also continu- ing to make tray favors for the hy. y has had a . performance of "The Ho day Caesarea News Don't forget this Sunday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. is a family day at the winter carnival in the Park. As events are continuous, you'll be able to buy lunch at the Park. There will be a break for the supper hour. . Cartwright Youth council teenage dance. Feb. 20 from 7 p.m to 11 p.m. at the Blackstock Town Hall. Come out and sup- port your dance committee. Lake Scugog Regatta March open meeting is changed from March 7 to March 14 at 2 p.m. at Caesarea Hall. The added charisma of the Disc Jockey at the Valentine Dance changed the evening from just a dance to a real par- ty. Scott Anderson and our Councillor David Dietlein's ar- ticle in last week's Port Perry Star makes us aware of a possi- bility of Hydro Transmission lines in our area. Let us all watch and act if necessary to see if they are installed over as much waste land as possible. Remember we live in the Gold- en Horseshoe which means each village and hamlet is go- ing to grow. On The Home Front Very pleased to have son Grant on Saturday for lunch and a visit while he helped with many chores about the farm. Also happy to have son Alan and wife Eleanor on Sunday for tea and an hour of reminiscing and visiting. Great to be re- membered on Valentine's Day. Neta Fish, Yvonne Holland, Craig and Alanna of Cadmus Road, visited with Audrey and Jim Leishman and family on Sunday afternoon at Reabo- ro...a lovely sunny day for a drive. : Nestleton Presbyterian Church The congregation of Nestle- ton Presbyterian Church met at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wm. Fair- ley in the 'pulpit. The hymns were played by Joyce Taylor and Dorothy Lee conducte Sunday School. : The responsive psalm was #114, 1 - 8 verses, and from St. Matthew 5. Prayers were said for Geo Scott, who is very ill in St. Jo. seph's Hospital, Peterborough, and for Mamie Magill, and for Dora Gillson. In the sermon, Rev. The whole school had a won- derful time at the winter carni- val held at the Stevens' farm last week. The weather was per- fect for an afternoon of sledding and winter games. ET
