Bo ole Ses ei. aise publ i SE Lib aa GE A shin LS ESE ER SE ia LE EE iad EE SE aE EE TS aT EEE PERT Tr TRENT NRE ET TET TET REETTTRRRNE SE RENT RTS TST EER 36- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 16, 1993 Broomball action Going down to the last week of play and there's still the question of who will end up in the first place in the league. Blackstock currently leads B & R by two points but if both teams should end up tied at the end of the regular season B & R would claim the top position due to head to head play where they have beaten Blackstock "three times to one loss. Monsma also trails Woody's by two points in the last two play-off positions and then there is the top goaltender's battle where B & R's Keith Tremblay has a oals against average of 0.94 to lackstock's Rick McLean with a 0.96 average. In last Sunday's play the Framer's didn't do Woody's any favors as they came out on top of a 2-1 squeaker. It was Woody's who came out first on the score board as they got the opener in the first two minutes of the game when Tom Powell assisted on Jim Gregg's goal. It was answered shortly after that when Keith Dalton netted one from Stephen Kristensen. The heartbreaker for Woodys came with just one second left in the MoJacks From Page 31 here, the better chance I have. . An even better chance if he uses Harman as a reference. The Modacks' coach couldn't say enough about the 17-year- old Whitby native. "I've been coaching here five years now and he played as well as I've seen any goaltender play," said Harman. Harman's choice to play Ken- nedy for the brunt of the first se- ries paid off, and-although a de- cision has to be made for round two, with a choice between Ken- nedy and Cooper there "are worse positions a coach could be in. "Roy's been hot," said Har- man, "but the luxury we've got is that we have two good goal- ies." Regardless of who starts in goal, the divisional semi-final should be similar to the 'Mo- Jacks' first round in that it promises to be a goaltending showcase. On the strength of a win in the seventh game against the Lakefield Chiefs, the Bowman- ville Eagles will provide the op- position for Port Perry in second round action. The Eagles also enjoy the lux- ury of two solid goalkeepers. The duo of former MoJack Drew Campbell and Sarah Couch combined for the league's best goals against average this sea- son. After leading the league standings for much of the regu- lar season, the Eagles faltered down the stretch to finish in sec- ond place behind Little Britain. Ironically, the MoJacks were the one club to give Bowman- ville the most trouble this sea- son, winning the season series with five wins and three losses. Because the ModJacks fin- ished behind the Eagles in the final standings, they give up the home-ice advantage enjoyed in the first round. first as Terry Black scored un- assisted. Woody's pulled out their goaltender with 1:02 to play but couldn't get the equa- lizer. Game two had Monsma and B & R hook up in a tight one as they ended regulation time deadlocked at 1-1. The first end- ed up 1-0 in favor of B & R as they collected a marker from the broom of Dan Taylor, assist- ed by Steve Durham. In the sec- ond Monsma tied it midway through the frame when Ken Lynde set up Murray Down. In the total goals overtime B & R pulled ahead by two as Dave Canning and Brian Robin- son clicked on the first with Robinson getting the second un- assisted with 1:04 showing on the clock. Monsma wouldn't die as Down got his second of the game from Nick Attwood, and with only five seconds left to play Ron Attwood put the final marker in from Nick. This one ended at 3 each giving both teams an additional point in their standings. The last game of the day saw first place Blackstock move one more point up on B & R as they This may be a blessing to Har- man's club as, while losing only once, the MoJacks have won three of four on Bowmanville ice this season. The Eagles' style of play is not unlike that of Port Perry accord- ing to Harman, both clubs with plenty of firepower up front and both with solid goal tending. Whatever the outcome, the Eagles/ModJacks match-up promises to be consistent with many of Harman and the Mo- Jacks' past playoffbattles. Ian Cooper recorded MoJacks first playoff win over Uxbridge The series starts 1n Bowman- ville on Tuesday with the open- ing faceoff scheduled for 8:30 .m. P Game two is slated for an 8:30 .m. start as well as the teams head back to Scugog Arena Thursday evening. Game three is back in Bowmanville for a 7:30 p.m. start. Next week being the final weekend has B & R hosting Emmerson's, Blackstock and the Framer's hooking up, and Monsma up against Woody's. In the ladies game in Can- nington the fourth 'place Mer- chants stunned the league lead- ing Rookies in their first game of the playoffs with a 2-1 over- time win. The regulation time ended at 0-0 as goaler "T-Bird" Prisciak kept the girls in it for the OT. Port actually built up a 2-0 lead. Joyce Parkinson con- nected from Janet Joncas on the first one and then Fran Ar- chibald knocked in Carol Mecl- nerney's rebound off the = boards. The Rookies lone goal came with 37 seconds left. eliminate Uxbridge finish the series Thursday on the strength of a 4-3 win in Ux- bridge last Tuesday. Despite be- ing badly outshot and blowing a three-goal lead, the ModJacks held on to win on goals by Ver- non, Logan, Leslie \and Jeff Barr...So far in the playoffs, Port Perry's big guns have led the way. Jody Logan and Jim' Vernon each have eight points while Shannon Todd and Clair Cornish have chipped in with six a piece. Bowling results Wednesday Night Ladies Team Standings: B-52's 33, S.C.
