Outside sports on the lake and hills will soon come to an end as spring and milder weath- er approaches. However, inside groups are getting busy with their spring plans. So you are going to have to mark your cal- endars. You have heard that the mu- seum buildings are showing their age and require plans, work and money to keep up with summer plans. According- ly, Paul Arculus and Kim Harp- er met with the "Head" U.C.W. for the March meeting at the home of Pat McGhee. The first project for the "Head Memorial" Church will be a new roof cost- ing about $7,000, then a new foundation with other repairs costing about $30,000. If we were 133 years old we would re- quire costly repairs too. If you would like to help, perhaps you'd like to donate money for a few shingles at least. I'm all for the little courtesies which help to keep life sweet. But some things are more im- portant than remembering not to put your elbows on the table! I'm reminded of an old farmer whose wife invited some other grand new neighbors for din- ner. Anxious to make a good im- pression, she kept her eye on her husband throughout the meal, making sure he used the right knife and fork for the fish and soon. | To her horror, when the last course arrived he began to eat it with a soup spoon. Mortified she hissed a warning down the table. George was unabashed, "Mary," he said calmly, "my mouth's the same size for the pudding as it was for the soup!" Well, it's true, isn't it? The Group Committee of 2nd g Scouts on the Island are holding a fundraising cheese ~ drive to provide money for much needed camping equipment. The cheese is excellent quality and delicious. If you would like to purchase some cheese and don't know a Beaver, Cub or Scout you may place orders through Cheryl Jones 985-9355 anytime before March 23. The cheese will be delivered in time for Easter. We are also doing a bottle drive on Saturday, April 17. Bottles may be left at the curb or on your porch. We gratefully accept donations in lieu of bot- es. We would like to thank all Is- land residents for your support in the past and continued sup- portin the future.
