"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 9, 1993 - 29 Playoff action underway in local broomball league League playoffs got started this past weekend with third place finisher Woody's Auctions defeating second place B&R wampers 2-1 in overtime. B&R drew first blood early on in the second period, after the first had gone scoreless, on a goal by Brian Pomeroy from Tim Ashbridge. Woody's made it even as Wayne Tate scored from Bruce Woodrow with over 10 minutes to play in regulation time. In the overtime there was but the one tally as Woodrow drew a second assist on a goal by Charlie Dennis. Brad Maarse also drew a pointon an assist as well. In the second game the Blackstock Brewers came out on top of a 2-0 score over Monsma Electric. The first goal came with just 51 seconds to play in the opening frame when Ron Short fired itin from Scott MacLennan. This held up until just about midway through the second when MacLennan notched one from Kevin Grieve. Rick McLean earned the shutout for Blackstock. Next week's games go with Blackstock and Monsma squar- ingoffat4 p.m., followed at 5 p.m. with Woody's and B&R. In Cannington on Sunday afternoon the Ladies Merchant team were eliminated from further play as they went down to defeats at the hands of the Rookies by a 2-1 count. The lone goal came from the broom of Joyce Parkinson from Janet Jon- cas and Michelle Andrews. A number of local players will be travelling to the Barrie area this upcoming weekend to participate in the Provincial Playdowns. The Framers competed in the Intermediate Tier II divi- sion of the championships which were recently held in An- gus, Ontario. Port Perry faced teams from four other leagues. These leagues were Toronto, Oshawa, Cannington and Bar- rie. The Framers met the Ontario Disposal team from Canning- ton in their first encounter. The Framers came out on top with a decisive 5-1 victory. The Fram- ers goals were scored by Keith Dalton, Tyler Renaud, Miké Jones, Eric Kristensen and Brian Mikkelsen. Assists went to Warren Strong (two), Kevin Smith (two), Jim Weir, Brian Kerry and Paul Brough. The K-Winter team from Bar- rie struck fear into the Framers Bowling results Wednesday Afternoon Ladies Team Standings: Square Boy 12, Haugens 8, Trader Sam 8, Pizza Delight 6, The Galley 5, Dixie Lee 3. Over 200: Carol Koch 245, Nancy Anger 232, 205, Debbie Chowns 218, 206, Cheryl Jones 2165, 208, Caron Weber 214, Joyce Storry 206, Linda Ashton 202. Over 550: Carol Koch 608, in the first half of their game as they played to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first. Keith Dalton notched two goals in the second as well as Brian Mikkelsen scor- ing unassisted to give the Fram- ers a 3-0 win. Assists went to Eric Kristensen (two), and Steve Kristensen (two). Glenn Archibald recorded the shutout for the Framers. The final game was a tough battle fought against Canadian Forces Base Toronto. The game ended in a draw with the teams tied at two a piece. Eric Kristen- sen scored with Steve and Peter Kristensen assisting. The sec- ond Framers goal was scored by Tyler Renaud and was assisted by Warren Strong. In the five minute overtime period Keith Dalton scored once and Steve Kristensen potted two goals to give the Framers the 5-3 win and the gold medal. The Framers received excel- lent coaching from Craig Re- naud on the bench. Glenn Ar- chibald received the award for top goaltender. Eric Kristensen was awarded M.V.P. honors. The best defenceman award was given to Jim Weir.
