Pictured are members of the Port Perry Club (from left to right: Aubrey Oppers, Al Bertrand, Jeff Fell, Earl Mayes, Jim Grieve) loading some of the clothes. The local club filled one and a half 24-foot moving vans full of cloth- ing. In total Ontario Rotary Clubs filled 33 container loads. Tippett-Richardson moving services of Trenton moved the clothing to Toronto from where it will be taken to Bosnia. Cana- dians must make a clear choice in the fall election between the Liberal or Conservative Party. Ask yoyrself, can Canadians take five more years of the kind of treatment dished out by the Conservatives or is it time to support a party which values "freedom and dignity for the in- dividual?" The Liberal Party, in the past, adopted our Canadian Flag, Medicare nationwide, pol- cies which protected Canadian companies from foreign take- over, negotiated fair trade, sup- ported marketing boards, and Liberal Party has a past history of achievements which have been good for Canada and Ca- nadians! As a candidate for the Liberal nomination in Durham Riding, I strongly believe that | Nation is at a crossroad ood, effective change and hope for Canada's future will only re- turn with the election of a Liber- al governmentin Ottawa. Yours truly, Glenn Malcolm Historian tries to clear muddied road To the Editor: Mr. Van Nest's letter on street names cries out for cor- rection and comment. There was never a Shanly Brothers: railway construction firm. Walter (1817-1899) and progressive social policy. The Only 6 days left to apply for bursary The deadline to submit applications for the Kent Farndale Art Bursaryisless than a week away. Applications must be submitted to the Scugog Memorial Pub- lic Library by Monday, March 15. For 10 years, Mrs. Farndale was instrumental in setting up art exhibits at the library. She volunteered her time, talent and knowledge of the arts, while introducing a broad spectrum of artists to Scugog Township residents. In appreciation of her years of service, the exhibition room at the library was renamed the Kent Farndale Gallery during a "retirement" party held in her honor in the spring of 1992. The public-supported bursary was also announcedat that time. Both established artists and persons who wish to learn an art may apply for the bursary. Application forms are available at the library. For further information, please call Cathryn Hall at 985- 7305, Barbara Carnegie at 985-3651 or Jane Litt at 985-2293. Francis (1820-1882) never worked together. Neither ever had any connection with Port Perry, let alone building a re- tirement home here. Both lived mainly, and died, in Montreal. Neither Shanly ever had any connection with the Port Whit- by and Port Perry Railway. The closest was Walter's survey of the Port Whitby and Lake Hu- ron Railway for John Ham Perry, who, like his father Pe- ter, never lived in Port Perry, al- though he inherited many acres within the town. Casimir Gzow- ski was never an employee of Walters; the reverse was occa- sionally the case. A bit of irrelevant but inter- esting information is that John Street was named for John Ham Perry and Casimir Street was originally Cinderella Street, named for his sister. The municipal council later changed the name, as a safety measure, lest vehicles using it after mid- night should turn into pump- kins; a fact overlooked in Mr. Van Nest's fanciful account. W. H.
