She also promised ater emphasis on small businesses and the creation of new busi- ness opportunities. "We must listen to people run- ning small businesses for they are the solid foundation of our communities and provide the majority of jobs upon which many families depend," she said. "They know what is need- ed in skills training, marketing, transportation and financing. We must too encourage new business ventures that are based on sound financial and technological expertise." Like so many Canadians, Mrs. Connell is tired of paying taxes and is calling upon the government to spend the tax foils of the country "responsi- y. "I work to pay the taxes that I pay as an individual," she said. "I want to see them spent re- sponsibly." Having grown up on a beef farm in the adjacent County of Victoria, Mrs. Connell says she is all to familiar with the con- cerns of farmers, particularly young ones today. She says the government must make it easi- er for the farmers to make a liv- ing and incentives must be in place for these people to contin- ue. Mrs. Connell is also con- cerned about free trade and is calling on the government to "look carefully at our role inte- nationally and reassess trade agreements." ' Mrs. Connell has been activ in the local Liberal Party for the past seven years and involvedin politics in general for many more years. She would like to see more women involved in pol- itics and more gender represen- tation in federal politics. "As a woman who has raised her family while working, I am constantly aware that women need a greater say in how the so- cial problems of our nation are resolved. I do not believe that there are issues of concern to women only. Every issue is of concern to men and women and it will take men and women working together in parliament to solve the problems we face. There must simply be gender balance in every issue." A nomination meeting is be- ing planned for later this spring. f STONEMOOR DAY CARE CENTRES INC. 399 Queen Street, Port Perry Offers a "Child Enrichment Programme" Full time and for children 18 months to 5 years. art time ava rs 6:30 am to 6 pm For futher information call 985-0800 py Notice of Liquor Licence Application The following establishment has applied to the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario for a liquor licence under the Liquor Licence Act: Application for a Sale Licence Cadmus Country Club, 13300 Cartwright East 1/4 Line, Twp. of Scugog, Blackstock (including outdoor area) Any resident of the municipality may make written submission as to whether the issuance of the licence is in the public interest having regard to the needs and wishes of the residents.
