12- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 16, 1993 Jazzmerize invited to perform at Musicfest Canada May 12-16 Jazzmerize performed at the Ontario Vocal Festival on Fri- day, March 5, and as a result of a very strong performance they were invited to perform at Mu- sicfest Canada, which takes place in Edmonton from May 12 through 16. Although Jazzmer- ize was formed primarily as a vocal jazz group, they were in- vited on their ability to sing chamber choir music. The vocal jazz portion of the Ontario Vo- cal Festival is not held until the Pancake Day at Purple® end of the month when Jazz- merize will perform again - this time doing vocal jazz. Although the students of Jazzmerize have not decided at this point whether or not they are able to accept the invitation to Musicfest, they feel very ex- cited about receiving an invita- tion to this prestigious festival. According to their director, Charles White, there are over 170 choirs performing at the Ontario Vocal Festival this year, and it is a great honor to be one of the groups selected to perform at Musicfest where over 7,000 students from across the country will be immersed in' five days of performing, listen- ing and attending workshops and clinics. "Attending this fes- tival can be a profound learning experience for the music stu- dent," says White. Congratulations to Jazzmer- ize on their excellent achieve- ment.
