Executive elected for Durham Region Association for Volunteer Administrators By Julia Dempsey Port Perry Star Having to do more with less is one of the toughest issues facing DRAVA members, they said during the association's annual meeting held in Port Perry. The Durham Region Associa- tion for Volunteer Administra- tors (DRAVA) met at Emiel's Restaurant on Thursday to dis- cuss this and other issues facing the association's membership. Gail Moore of Partners Plus, a management consulting firm specializing in training and con- sulting services to the voluntary and public sectors, was the guest speaker. When Mrs. Moore-asked the administrators what career is- sues they were facing, she re- ceived a wide array of respons- es. Most agreed doing more with fewer resources was the top is- sue, but others, including job survival, not being valued as professionals, and being gov- erned by ever-changing boards of directors whose focus may dif- fer from year to year, were other concerns. "The overall trend is doing more with less," Mrs. Moore agreed. "People are expected to work harder, wear more hats, and be more productive, all with few resources." Other trends she sees evolv- ing for volunteer administra- tors include a move away from directing and controlling to creative leadership; an increas- ing role as consultant; the vol- unteer department becoming increasingly mission driven; Tax clinic is open Income Tax advice, publica- tions, forms will be available from our special local tax infor- mation centre at: CEC - Agricul- ture Canada, 126 Water Street, Port Perry on Thursdays from 8:30a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Staffed by officers of the De- partment of National Revenue. Mrs. Moore suggested numer- ous books, periodicals, video and audio cassettes that are available to help volunteer ad- ministrators cope with the changesin their field.
