The arena wasn't a sell-out for this early morning game but the fans that were there were quite boister- ous and were treated to an out- standing game for their efforts. The main story in this game was Big V's lanky goalie Doug Short who faced more rubber than a busy street as he an- chored his team to a 4-2 win. The game started out fast with end to end action as both teams didn't bother with the traditional feeling out process, but rather went right after each other. It was Larocque that counted first as Cory Wiatrzyk scored from Chris Jamieson giv- ing his team a 1-0 lead. Big V was outmaned as they were short their top three scorers but they played with big hearts and determination as they never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts as they scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead. David Bonser got things roll- ing for Big V on a set up from Wednesday Afternoon Ladies Team Standings: Square Boy 14, Trader Sam 12, Haugen's 11, Pizza Delight 11, Dixie Lee 8, The Galley 7. Big V went up 3-1 as Alex Wordley scored from Eric Beiers. Larocque kept the pressure on and made it a 3-2 game as Cory Wiatrzyk scored his sec- ond with Ben Stephenson being the set-up man on the play. With the clock winding down and Larocque pressing hard to get the equalizer they pulled their goalie for the extra attack- er. But it was not to be their day as Big V's Scott Sanderson pounced on a loose puck firing it the length of the ice into the centre of the vacated net to salt the game for Big V at 4-2.
