Jaks nd} 30 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 23, 1993 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Lots of future Ey chre Friday Some of our area people spent a long vacation in the south and wondered why they returned so soon. Others tried to enjoy the old fashioned winter and have selected a later period to enjoy a guaranteed vacation, feeling that Spring must be around the corner. We are pleased that Hilda Mi- chell finally got away in Febru- ary to enjoy a four generation family treat. She is so lucky to enter into family trips and get so much learning from these oc- casions. Future Island plans are in store for March 31, Easter eggs, April 17 luncheon and Craft shows as well as plans for Mu- seum repairs after considerable money has been raised. We un- derstand funds are being donat- ed for this large project already. DURHAM REGION meeting to be held on: Queen Victoria did not suffer fools gladly amongst older peo- ple, but had a soft heart for chil- dren. One summer at Balmoral she promised the child of a workman on the estate that she would bring her a doll from Lon- don on her return the following year. It seemed to the girl too much to hope that the great lady with all her duties of State should re- member. But, the following year, imagine the delight of the child when the first visit the Queen made on her return to Balmoral was to the cottage with the doll. Part of the greatness of Queen Victoria was due in no small way to her concern for in- dividuals, no matter how hum- ble. Little. wonder she was so well loved. Clerk So, Saturday was the first day of spring, according to the calendar, Let's just hope that the birds don't know this be- cause they'd get quite a surprise if they were to return now. This could also apply to the sriow- birds who go south to Florida to get away from the snow and cold. I'm one of the very few who really enjoys a good winter, but, when the snow goes I want im- mediate summer. Our thoughts this week are with Keith and Faye Ashton and boys of Epsom who lost their home to fire on Friday night. There is a Trust Fund set up in Uxbridge at the Toronto Dominion Bank or a donation could be made on their behalf to Epsom-Utica United Church. Church and Sunday School this week will be held in Epsom at 11 a.m. with Bible Study group meetingat 10 a.m. The Youth Group will meet on Friday at 7:20 p.m. at the home of Sandra Kerry. Euchre night is Friday in Uti- ca Hall startingat 8 p.m. The Sobil family spent part of the March break with a ski va- cation at the Baldwins in Mus- koka. "Utica News by Vera Brown on the 4th Line on Saturday evening, probably fog related. Fortunately no fatalities. Ap- parently a vehicle crashed into a vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. The fog was also responsible for the small attendance at the Jack and Jill dance in honor of Ken Lamb and Karen Loonow- icz which was held in Utica Hall on Saturday night. Best wishes at hall to Ken and Karen in their up- coming marriage. Lorne and Eileen Slute enter- tained their grandchildren over the holidays. Visiting with them for several days at a time were Kayla and Meaghan Slute, Jeffrey and Corey Slute and Ian and Adam Ross. The Brown household had some encouragement from Sat- urday's visit to Sunnybrook. Bill appeared to recognize us and know what we said. Even the nurses commented on his alertness. Just thought I'd pass this news on to everyone who have been concerned and those who have been offering prayers for his recovery.
