REAR IR Ce ob RT TNE § i ¢ i | 4 / "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 30; 1993 - 13 Millar Lights to present The joys and sorrows of Dick- en's England are coming to the Port Perry stage as the Millar Lights present the acclaimed hit musical "Oliver." This will be the seventh full production by the Millar Lights, a group of 36 young people who have lit up the stage and de- lighted audiences of all ages with their superb work in such shows as "Guys and Dolls," "The King and I" and "Annie." "Oli- ver" will open April 238 at the Town Hall 1878 in Port Perry and run for nine shows. The musical, written by Lio- nel Bart, follows the trials and tribulations of young Oliver as - he moves from the sinister workhouse through the some- times cruel streets of London with Fagin and his gang of young thieves. When Oliver has a brush with the law and then falls under the care of a well- heeled benefactor, Fagin and the criminal Bill Sykes attempt to get Oliver back. The attempt- ed kidnapping fails and costs Syke's girl Nancy, her life. It is a bitter-sweet story and the char- acters truly look like they stepped from the streets of 19th century London. Caitlin McCoy plays "Oliver" in her first lead role with the Millar Lights. Brad Goreski, a Millar Light veteran plays "Fa- gin" and Kingsley Malcolm, also a long time member of the group is "Bill Sykes." The role of "Nan- cy" 1s played by Elissa Blowe and Daniel Petronijevic is "the Artful Dodger." Janet Stevenson will direct the production. Janet also di- rected the Lights in "Guys and Dolls." Karen Burns is produc- ing the show and production co- ordinator is Lynn Relf.
