What delightful Spring weather we've enjoyed the past few days..with many birds ar- riving in this area. It sure just has to be Spring in all its glory! Annual Cancer Campaign The annual drive for funds for the Township of Scugog will soon be in full swing once again as the month of April is set aside as Cancer Manth. During that period many volunteers will be engaged in an all out ef- fort to have a successful cam- paign with Doris Taylor, our en- -thused campaign chairperson at the helm, with 30 captains and approximately 250 can- vassers for one tremendous drive. In rural areas the entire month is needed due to folks not home from the South early in the month, and also road condi- tions are a factor. If you are asked to be a volunteer in this major effort, just remember it is not simply a generous gesture. The fight against cancer is eve- rybody's fight, an act of self preservation, your best invest- ment for health and happiness! On March 22, Doris Taylor, campaign chairperson, with the able assistance of Dorothy Mun- ro, hosted a delicious, bountiful luncheon at her home on Lilla Street, Port Perry, for the 30 captains of the Township re: the fundraising drive. After all had ' partaken of the variety of food topped off with coffee or tea. A get acquainted hour was en- joyed before heading home with their kits. Daffodil Day As a kick-off, Daffodil Day is scheduled for this coming Fri- day, April 2, commencing at 10 a.m. and all around the town girls will be out in force selling daffodils at different locations. The headquarters for Daffodil Day will be the home of Doris Taylor, Lilla Street, in Port Perry. Anniversary Celebration Happy 60th Anniversary to Carl and Jean Adams of Black- stock, who celebrated on Satur- day, March 27, with a large gathering of relatives and riends on hand to wish them the best! The festivities were held in Blackstock United Church C.E.Room. Lovely cards and gifts and many good wishes from the government of- ficials. Daffodil D Ne: A delicious buffet was en- Joyed after greetings were ex- changed. Sincere best wishes to the Adams for many years to come! : ; oa Sympathy Extended Deepest sympathy goes out to the Werry family members in the passing of Eleanor - beloved ™ wife of Neil Werry, a fine work- er in the Blackstock community and loved by all. She will be sadly missed. Also - sympathy to the Dow- son family of Port Perry, in the loss of Merlin Dowson - a vete- ran of the second world war and a veteran in the grocery busi- ness world. Well liked by all who knew him! And the late Irene Philip...a good friend. A dedicated Wom- en's Institute member and world traveller. She will missed by family and a host friends. Nestleton United Church On a fine sunny morning, March 28 at 11:15 a.m. Lent Sunday, brought a number of worshippers out to Nestleton United Church," with Arthur Weir extending the greeting at the door. Rev. Dale Davis con- ducted the service, and the Lenten Candle Liturgy was presented by the minister. Dur- ing the children's theme the minister's thoughts left with them, "Even though we are sad when someone dies we have hope and believe we will see them again in Heaven." Rev. D. Werry. gl 0n Nestleton Presbyterian Church On a beautiful spring-like morning, the service of worship was conducted by Rev. Wm: Fairley in the Nestleton Pres- byterian Church at 11 a.m. Joyce Taylor played the hymns and Sunday School Class w taught by Dorothy Lee. : Psalm 130 was read respon- sively and Scripture readings were from Ezekiel 37 and John 11. Rev. Fairley spoke of the faith of the blind man, and of the woman of Samaria at the well - also by the resurrection of dry bones, the dead hopes of Is- rael is revived of Christ's king- dom. In all matters, God has the answer. On Sunday, April 11, Holy Communion will be dispensed - Easter Sunday, at the regular service.
