Business as usual for Jim & Marg Lawrence It was 19 years ago that Jim and Margaret Lawrence arrived in Port Perry to assume operation of Bruton's IDA Drug Store, after purchasing the business from Stanley Bruton. Since that day on March 1, 1974 they have successfully operated their business from the same store, conveniently located beside the Post Office on Queen Street. The Lawrences announced Monday they have joined forces with Big V Drug Stores, effec- tive April 3, and will become the firm's 119th store in Ontario. Bruton's IDA will be renamed Bruton Big V Drug Store and becomes the 119th location for BigV in Ontario. On April 3, 1993, Bruton Big V will become a 100 per cent em- ployee owned, community ased drug store and will con- tinue to provide the same friendly community service for which the store has been recog- nized. In addition, as a member of the Big V family, Bruton Big V will be able to offer enhanced value and continued free deliv- ery. Free delivery on anything sold in the store is a service which is a Big V Drug Store trademark and important to many customers, particularly Rifles stolen from residence in Port Perry on March 28 Durham Regional Police are investigating the break-in to a residence in Port Perry in which a number of rifles were taken. According to police, entrance was gained to the Queen Street home between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on March 28 by smashing the rear garage wooden door. Nine rifles of various calibres were taken as well as stereo equipment, a VCR, camera and coins. Police are requesting the pub- lic's assistance in this case. Jim stresses nothing has changed, as all staff members: will retain their jobs and Patty McGregor will continue as pharmacist. "It was a tough decision," Jim told the Star Monday morning, "but Big V is a good company to be associated with and for long- term planning it was a good opportunity for both parties." He says they are looking for- ward to having a little more time to themselves in the future, but for the time being it's business as usual. Since arriving in Port Perry almost two decades ago, both Marg and Jim have been very active in the community. They have served as presidents and directors of various organiza- tions including Kinsmen, Kinettes, Chamber of Com- merce and the local Ringette Association.
