Mrs. Russell learned of the opportunity Friday, March 12 at the Baha'i National Centre in Toronto where she volunteers once a week. She immediatel called her husband Michael. Af- ter talking about the proposal, the couple decided it was an op- portunity Mrs. Russell could not turn down. "Everything came together within 10 minutes," Mrs. Rus- sell told the Port Perry Star. "Everythingjust fell into place." As a wife and mother, Mrs. Russell says she's not sure she Girl Guide Everyone involved, knew "Music For Music" would be a wonderful success, and it was! We were thrilled with the excel- lent program. The young people of the-O'Neill Collegiate Cham- ber Choir were led by Mr. Ross Baird and proved to us that practice makes perfect. Our own Hugh Baird made everyone proud, as were many of his rela- tives I saw at the concert. Join- ing Hugh were his wife Roberta, daughters Jennifer and son Kenton to close the program singing: "Bless This House." Jennifer also sang several solos which added to the evening of song. "The priority is to learn about Chinese culture," Mrs. Russell says, adding much can be learned about people through their language. To achieve the Baha'i's goal of global unification, mankind must first understand one an- other, Mrs. Russell says. "We believe in the unity of mankind," she says. "The only way to do this is to understand other people. We don't have to be the same. But we must un- derstand and appreciate the dif- ferences." Mrs. Russell hopes she can "hook into" other courses while attending university in Harbin. She says she would like to study Chinese fine arts and Tai Chi. "Who knows what I will do with all this knowledge when I return," she says. "I'm sure it will open doors for me some- where. I'll just have to make sure I notice them opening." Corrosion occurring in some insulated metal chimneys poses a potential safety hazard. These chimneys are commonly used for ~ fireplaces, wood stoves and furnaces. Corrosion of your metal chimney could ultimately result in the chimney falling off the roof or nearby materials surrounding the chimney catching on fire. Corrosion can potentially leadtoa metal chimney becoming blocked by its own insulation, resulting in poisonous carbon monoxide gas building up inside your home. Studies have found corrosion occurring in some chimneys that were less than three years did. Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the safety of their own chimneys. The Ontario Fire Marshal recommends that you have your chimneys (both metal and masonry) inspected each year by a qualified chimney sweep or heating contractor even when the chimney is only subject to light and intermittent use. Efforts should be made to inspect those portions of an insulated metal chimney installed within concealed spaces. A certified chimney sweep or heating contractor can determine how safe your chimney is. If your chimney is unsafe, you will be advised on what repairs are needed. Until repairs are made, the fireplace or other heating appliance should not be used. Make sure your chimney is safe -- it's your responsibility to For further-information on this public safety notice please contact the Office of the Fire Marshal at 1-800-268-6187, or your local Ontario oy
