Spring having arrived, each day we can see signs of new growth. With the few showers we have had, the grass is even starting to green up. A wonder- ful time of the year. Euchre results are as follows: 13 tables were played. Ladies' first prize went to Verna Drap- er, second to Doris Evans. Most lone hands Evelyn Dennis. men's first prize won by Mary Housego, second Hervey Paint- er, Men's most lone hands Art Richardson. Fifty/fifty draw won by George Harper. Door prize win- ners were Ray Hodson and Mrs. M. Gilroy. Everyone is invited to the next euchre on Thursday, April 15 at 8 p.m. at the Com- munity Centre. Last Wednesday afternoon the Eleanor Knight Group of the Women's Missionary Socie- ty met at the home of Chrissie McKinney, Brookin, with presi- dent Ruth Oliver chairing the meeting. The president opened with a call to worship. Hymn "Near the Cross" was sung. Scripture from Matthew 28:1-8 was read, followed by medita- tion from the writings of Euge- nia Price. Ruth led in prayer and "Jesus Christ is Risen To- day" was sung. Lois Daw led in the study focusing on the Bible and the tradition surrounding its interpretation. We were served lovely refreshments, and Just enjoyed being with Chrissie in her home once again. I understand Chrissie even prepared some of the goodies. The Ladies' Bible Class will meet at Sheila Parrotts' home on Wednesday evening of this week at 8 p.m. We welcome back Burt and Ruth Wood who have returned home following the winter months spent in Florida. Berta Emm also arrived back on the week-end from her stay in Fort Lauderdale. For those of our readers who looked for this column last week and couldn't find it, sorry about that, but it, appeared i in the Star Marketplace on Thursday, and I realize that some of you do not receive that issue, so I'm afraid' you missed out. We were saddened over the weekend to hear that our neigh- bour Tony Linders passed away at Oshawa General Hospital on Saturday evening, as a result of a severe stroke he suffered on Thursday. We extend sincere sympathy to his wife Trudy and family at this time. Doug and I enjoyed Easter Sunday with our aunt, Mrs. Ruth Purdy of Orangeville, at- tending church with her, dining at the Stone Crock, and drop- ping in to see Jean and Cecil Vicars of Fergus. It was a good day. Sorry we missed the Easter Sunday breakfast at Burns. Un- derstand it went over well with about 86 in attendance. Holy Communion was celebrated at Morning Worship. Next Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. we welcome "The Kings- way Quartet" from London, On- tario to Burns Church. We warmly welcome anyone in the surrounding area to join with us for a good evening of gospel mu- sic and fellowship together. Of- fering and a social hour follow- ing the concert in the lower hall. Hope to see you there. Sunday, April 25 is Commemo- ration Sunday with Rev. Ken Heron as the guest speaker. This service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Again, we welcome one and all to join us. Annual Easter Egg Hunt a success The Nuts About Chocolate, 5th annual Easter Egg Hunt took place last Sunday after- noon along Queen Street in Port Perry. Hundreds of kids, ranging from 3 to 6 years of age took part in the popular event under bright sunny skies. The children were assembled into age groups and searched for Easter Eggs and chocolates dropped along the street, which had been closed off to traffic. Organizer and sponsor Ken Koury of Nuts About Chocolate is to be congratulated on pro- viding another very successful event for the children.
