Cindy Bell's love and appreci- ation for nature and its beauty are strong features in her work. She captures strong vivid imag- es of natural landscape. Alter- nately, she is able to communi- cate gentle, sometimes romantic notions through her paintings. Her floral paintings arein great demand. Cindy's fa- vorite medium is watercolor but she is equally comfortable with her work in oils. As a wife and mother of two children Cindy's goal is to blend her homelife and career harmo- niously. Recently her family has shown their support by building her a new studio at- tached to their home. Cindy combines her outdoor activities of hiking and fishing with her art. Her sketch pad Earth Day celebrations Earth Day was founded on April 22, 1970 in the United States by a senator and Law student. Initially conceived as a series of environmental teach- ins on college campuses, Earth Day surprised everyone by be- coming the largest grassroots event of its kind in U.S. history with about 20 million people participating. In 1990, an international fes- tival was staged to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Earth Day. More than 200 million people in 141 countries, includ- ing two million Canadians, par- ticipated in the tree plantings, educational seminars, commu- nity clean-ups, ecology fairs, re- cycling program and peaceful demonstrations. The event gen- erated wordwide requests for an organization to sustain and expand this newly created envi- ronment network. Earth Day Canada 1990 has taken on the responsibility and has since be- .come home to Earth Day Inter- national. On Thursday, April 22, 1993, the Township of Scugog will be partaking in the National Earth Day celebration. The ac- tivities will be focused in down- town Port Perry's lakefront. Specifically, the area north of the boat launch including Birdseye Park will see scat- tered tree plantings. Approxi- mately two dozen trees will be planted consisting of Maple and Ash variety. The Township Parks department will be work- ing in a joint effort with volun- teer groups including the local high school and the Rotary ser- vice club. In addition, the Natu- ralization area north of the boat launch will be officially dedicat- ed as "Rotary Park" in recogni- tion of the outstanding contri- bution and support by the Port Perry Rotary Club in the area of EMMERSON 193 QUEEN ST., PORT PERRY, ONT. Alana teaches art at the Wil- kinson Studio in Newmarket. Both she and Cindy continue to study themselves and are busy organizing, arranging and painting for shows. Alana is a regular exhibitor at "Pictures Only Us" Gallery in Leaside Village, Toronto where she was billed as one of Canada's Top New Artists.
