Several familigs in our midst were saddened by the passing of loved ones. Sympathy is extend- ed to Marg and Ted Kemp, Jeff and David, and to her mother Susan Saywell on the passing of Marg's father Stephen Saywell. Many relatives and friends vis- ited the funeral parlour and at- tended the funeral on Saturday morning. Sympathy is extended to Bob and Nancy Bryans and their family Gord and Deb Bryans and family, Patti and Rick Alpe and family, all of Blackstock and Steve and Lorinda Bryans of Bowmanville on the passing. of Bob's father last week. Quite a number from here called at the Low and Low Fu- neral Chapel, Port Perry to pay respects to the late John Dow- son, father of Donna and Gle VanCamp. : The United Church Sunrise Service was held at Breezy Acres, home of Harvey and Joan Graham, Purple Hill at 6:30 a.m. Easter morning. A fine crowd attended this meaningful service. Cheryl Graham of Clive, Al- berta and Rob Graham of To- ronto spent the weekend with their parents Harvey and Joan Graham. Easter Sunday dinner guests of Terry and Tara Taylor were Howard and Julie Bailey of Lon- don, Lee and Sherri Mildren of Whitby, Roy and Catherine Corden, Julie and Christie, Port Perry, Myron and Marlene Tay- lor, Cumbermere, Neil and Elaine Bailey, Blackstock. Purple Hill residents enjoyed Easter Sunday brunch at the underground home of Bill and Paula Lishman and family. At the regular Thursday luncheon date for the Seniors of our community a special treat was enjoyed when the Grade One students of Mrs. Linda Bradburn came to visit. After singing several songs the pupils each sat beside a senior 'atl "\Maryfield, Saskatchewan is vis- read to them. What a hive of pleasant activity took place when the generations came to- gether. Thursday evéning the Music students of C.H.S. hosted a din- ner and dance as a fundraiser for their proposed music trip to Quebec later in the month. After a delicious meal a col- ored television provided a rea- son for Mr. Fletcher to sell tick- ets. A birthday gift was presented to Eric on the occa- sion of his 50th birthday. Happy Birthday. Glenn Richardson of Hamil- ton, New Zealand is a Junior Farmey delegate to Ontario. He is presently spending a few days with Shelley Holliday and Mark Graham. On Friday eve- ning a Junior Farmer get-to- gether was hosted to welcome Glenn to Durham East. The Women's Curling Wind- up dinner was held on Tuesday, March 30. Helen Green wel- comed everyone to the pot luck lunch after which Joyce Kelly said grace. After dinner Helen thanked the icemakers Bob Strong and Laverne Sutton who had joined the group for dinner. Carol Gray presented her treasurer's report and also showed the treasurer's report that had been presented by Ge- rald Kelly. It was pointed out that this was the 20th year of curling for this league. First place trophy and prizes were presented by schedule manager Marie James to the team of Joyce Kelly, Helen Green, Ann Meester and Jean VanCamp. Second place win- ners were Helen Coates, Helen Green, Ria Hoogeveen and Gail McNamara while third place was Carol Gray, Mary Mackie, Ann Meester and Lori Aldred. Fifteen mem- bers enjoyed the delicious din- ner. Minutes and the annual busi- ness was attended. Eileen McLaughlin gave her farewell address as outgoing president. The nominating committee gave the following slate of offi- cers - President - May Shor- tridge, Vice-president - Pat Sleep, Secretary/Treasurer - Carol Thornton. Muriel Hoskin conducted the election of offi- cers. The remainder of the meeting was spent making plans for the District Annual which Black- stock W.I. will be hosting in May. The programme planning meeting will be held on April 19. The meeting closed with O Can- ada. oo It was noted that in last month's W.I. report Barry Van- Camp who gave an excellent talk on gardening was somehow missed in the publication. This week we discussed what we were go- ing to be doing for the achieve- ment night coming up soon. Then off to the kitchen we all went. We were really excited be- cause tonight we were going to be making Alaska Baked Boun- ty and Chicken Cordon Bleu. First we sampled the Chicken Cordon: Bleu. Fantastic. Then we tried the Alaska Baked Bounty. Heavenly. This dessert was so good.
