The club is planning a nation- wide flag raising on May 15. It 'hopes that communities across Canada, including Port Perry, participate in this event. "Beginning May 15, we're asking all Canadians to display flags and continue the spirit which began during the 125th anniversary," said Dave Gold- berg, a member of the Kinsmen Club of Port Perry. The May 15 event will feature each community raising a Ca- nadian flag at noon in simple ceremonies. Mr. Goldberg is seeking the support of the local Parks and Recreation Commit- tee to host a similar ceremony at Palmer Park in Port Perry. Mr. Goldberg says the cere- mony will be simple with a flag raising and the' national an- them sung. "We won't go to the extent of the 125th anniversary," he said. "We are just hoping to get the people to come out at noon on that day and raise the flag." Last year the Kinsmen Clubs of Canada were responsible for the highly successful Proud to be Canadian tour which caused an outpouring of patriotism. Two oversized Canadian flags travelled across the country and children were given a chance to sign these flags in most towns and cities. More than 3.5 million children signed. The two flags metin Thunder Bayin late June before moving on to Ottawa for Canada Day celebrations. The Canadian government was so impressed with the feel- ing of patriotism generated by the project that it encouraged the club to formulate another CAROLE LEVEILLE Jormerly of Hair Centre is pleased to announce ber private practice of The Victorian Hair Salon in Port Perry Carole invites ber clients - old and new to call [985-3693 | Perms-Colours~Highlights- Waxing JZ WU UD 085-8448 SAGE - PIZZA & SUBS 80 Water Street, Port Perry * Free Delivery rr in a Limited - Area venture to keep the spirit alive. The Kinsmen Clubs across the country will spearhead this events in every community. It is the hope of the Kinsmen Club that this event continues on a yearly basis. Mr. Goldberg says the theme could remain the same each year, but the events could differ from year to year. . It is the belief of both th Kinsmen, as well as the Canadi- an government, that this activi- ty will restore the pride which Canadians have for their coun- try. It was found during last year's Canada 125 celebrations that people were patriotic. Not only will it keep the patriotic feeling alive, but will also spur the economy by more Canadians buying the country's goods. "It will give people an oppor- tunity to show respect to the flag and Canada as a whole," he said. "We're hoping Canadians feel » positive about the future and also demonstrate the good feel- ings demonstrated during Can- ada Day." 5 The people at SUZY'S TRAVEL LTD., have over 50 years of travel arrangement experience waiting to assist you with your every travel need.
