The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. at Scugog Arena. Fun gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Port Perry Figure Skating Carnival is Friday night Port Perry Figure Skating Club will be eelebrating its year end with an Ice Carnival. The theme will be Mary Poppins and .gach of our skaters will be playing a part. There will be Bert, Mary, Jane and Michael to bring the story alive on ice. The day is Friday, April 23, the time will be 7:30 p.m. and the place will be the Scugog Arena. We hope to see you there to help us end the year with a bang. Our skaters in the Canskate program have been very busy earning their badges under the apt tutelage of our professional coaches: Pat Edwards, Pamela Richards, Michael Sanderson, Celia Sanford and Kathy Snaz- el. The following skaters re- ceived their Beginner Badges: Lauren Guthrie, Dustin Cur- ran, Kyle Paige, Joanna Bens- chop, Elizabeth Benschop, Sean Harper, Janeen Kerswill, Amanda Curry, Lisa Kava- naugh, Sandra Schewaga. Shannon Hatfield, Samantha Stevenson and Kevin Gloster, Nicholas Leveille, Paul Herold, Cameron O'Connor, Anne Ma- rie Harper, Crystal Currie, Tif- fany McFadden, Craig Wise and Oliva Puckrin. Elementary Badges were re- ceived by Shannon Newton, Ga- briel Benschop, Leanne Bar- foot, Rachel Cybulski, Katelyn Cowie, Robert Smith, Jason Cottrell, Ceri Boomsma, Alisha Kerswill, Michael Redman, Ce- line Batterink, April Horton, Peter Dutka and Travis Puck- rin. Basic Badges were received by Nicholas Spence, Jessica Foster, Kara Olsen, John Dutka and Rebecca Lade. Novice 1 Badges were earned by Lori Powell, Alicia Brown, Sarah Harper, Colleen Bruce, Colleen Barfoot, Nicole Curran, Trisha Cowie, Angela Arrigo, Candace Gibbs and Carly Ho- ward. Novice 2 Badges were earned by Noel Young, Sara Hansen, Christopher Gloster, Michael Armstrong, Melanie Hawkins, Sarah Eenling, Kim Brain, Chloe Desmairais, Alexis Ste- venson, Dana Jewell, Tony Boomsma, Meghan Smith, Sa- rah Ballagh, Marisa Dilisi and April Egan. Novice 4 Badges were given to Lea Lansdell, Shannon Pick- ford, Marc Desmairais and Ash- ley Faux. Proficiency certificates were given to Kelli Nadin, Tasha Ste- phenson and Pamela Arm- strong. Our Canfi was reintr reskate program ucted this season and the following skaters earned their Freeskate 1 Badge: Melissa Meeking and Lindsay Wilson. In January we introduced the 4 Star Precision program to our skaters who were Novice 1 and above in their skating skills. Fifteen of our skaters partici- pated in the pilotof this pro- Manvers gram and earned the Star 1 cer- tificate. They are Colleen Barfoot, Colleen Bruce, Kim Brain, Amy Davidson, Marisa Dilisi, Ashley Faux, Candace Gibbs, Theresa Gracie, Melissa Meeking, Kelli Nadin, Shannon Pickford, Faith Scholfield, Krystal Simon, Tasha Stephen- son and Lindsay Wilson. These skaters have enjoyed this pro- gram and credit is given to their coach, Pat Edwards who has brought boundless energy and enthusiasm to the club this sea- son. Our Senior skaters have had a very busy season having gone through four test days. They have all progressed in their freeskate, dance and figure lev- els. They have worked very hard to achieve their goals this season and have succeeded. We were well represented at area competitions with several skaters returning home with medals. Well done to all of our skaters. You deserve to cele- brate. Tweens win big at home On Thursday April 8 the Manvers Cagone Skate Sharp- ening Tweens played host to the visiting Ennismore Tweens. Both teams got right to work right from the opening whistle with both goalies getting tested early and both coming up big holding their team in there in the early going. Defence was the order of the day with the of- fence getting shut down on eve- ry rush. Finally at 10:09 of period one Ennismore scored picking the corner on the Manvers goalie. Alison Chapman was working the corners well along with Ju- lie Kennedy looking for a quick turnover to get Manvers back in the scoring column. At 5:66 Alison Chapman took control of the ring at the Ennis- more blue line over to Krista * Cameron who put one up in the top shelf past the Ennismore goalie. Leanne Morgan was playing her usual strong defen- sive game. BE In the 25.7 Kg. class Glen Thompson and Matt Clayton, both of S.A. Cawker, placed third and fourth respectively, Scott Cunningham, also of Cawker, was first in the 84.5 Kg. class and Dane Gray, Caw- ker, was fourth in the 35.5 Kg. class. Jay Blain of Epsom was first in the 42.3 Kg. division and Jus- ten Gerrow of Cartwright was third. Jeff Ashton of Cawker was - second in the 44.4 Kg. class and Matt Sturgess, also of Cawker, was firstin the 45.7 Kg. class. In the Intermediate division Cartwright Public School fin- ished third in the standings with 24 points. S.A. Cawker was fourth with 21 points. Fifteen schools took part in the competi- tion. Paul Harrison of Cartwright was first in the 556 Kg. class and Chris Gerrow of Cawker was fourth. In the 56.7 Kg. division Aaron Combdon of Cawker was third. Ron Farrell of Cawker and Der- ek Leeming of Cartwright were second and third respectively in the58.2Kg.class. = ¢lass 'Buddy Ledger of Cartwright was third. Matt Stichmann of Cawker was firstin the 63.6 Kg. class and Ja- mie Trick of Cawker was second inthe64.9Kg. class. David Whitfield of Cawker was second in the 71.8 Kg. class and Ryan Tyce of Cawker was fourth in the 78.6 Kg. division. Cartwright ball teams nearly filled Registration for minor ball players in the Cartwright Ball Association are at record levels, with divisions nearing maxi- mum capacity. Players interest- ed in playing this year should contact the registrar, Rob Mich- el (986-4254), before the end of this week to ensure a position on a team. There are over 800 registra- tions in now for the softball and hardball programs. The associ- ation is offering mixed softball for players between five and 18 years, mixed hardball for players between nine and 18, and there will be one rep team for boys in the 13 - 14 year age bracket. At this point the league 18 anticipating a total of 28 teams, up by 10 teams from last year. The softball teams will play within the Cartwright area Sport Trophy at the Ps Vib gid parks, while the hardball teams will play as a part of the Scugog Baseball Association. The Cart- wright hardball teams will play half their games in Cartwright, and the other halfin Port Perry. As of this news release, there were four positions open for T- Ball (five - six years), 16 for Tyke (seven - eight years), eight for Mite (nine - 10 years), six for Squirt (11-12 years) and 10 for Senior (13 and up) in the soft- ball league. The hardball league age divisions are not yet finalized, but there are still some openings there as well. After this week, registrations will be taken on a space availa- bility basis and with late fees to cover the added cost of special orders for uniforms.
