This time every year, thou- sands of pool owners begin pull- ing back their covers, hosing off their lawn furniture and spruc- ing up their back yards for an- other season of good ol' summer- time living. Those who properly winterize their pools, normally have only a few steps to take to get their pool in gear for swim- ming and enjoyment. Follow these simple steps to open your pool safely and easily: * Remove your pool cover, clean it completely before stor- ingit away for the season. * This will prevent cracking and fading. * Check to make sure your fil- ter and pump are in good work- ing order. Replace your filter or clean it with the appropriate cleaner. Take a water sample to Blanchard's at 239 Queen St for a recommended treatment plan to bring back your sparkling blue pool. Start the season right by keeping safety in mind. Every pool should have a ring buoy with an attached line and/or a long handled hook. This is the type of equipment you won't want out of reach if the time comes to use it. Once you've taken the proper care to open your pool, enjoy it in style. It's going to be a long, hot summer! Grelting your lawnmower ready for the season Here are some basic guide- lines to help you get your lawn- mower ready for the season. 1. Switch off all controls and remove the spark plug wire. Drain the old oil and fill it with SAE heavy duty 30 oil. This oil stands up to hotter conditions better than a multi grade oil. The oil has two functions: 1. To lubricate engine parts. 2. To keep the engine running cooler. This is why clean oil is a must! 2. Remove the old gasoline. It is important to use fresh fuel. 3. Clean or change the air fil- ter. If your lawnmower uses a foam filter use a solvent to clean it, then use a little oil to dampen it. This traps fine sand and dust particals. I your lawnmower uses a paper filter, replace it with a new one. 4. Replace or clean the spark plug. Use a wire brush to clean it, then replace it to its proper place. Make sure you use the proper spark 'plug. The wrong spark plug could over heat the engine. Most four cycle lawn- mower engines use a CJ8 or J8C Champion Spark Plug. 5. A dirty engine can over- heat. It is important to keep the cooling fans clear. Remove any grease, dirt or grease around the engine. Don't be afraid to wash your lawnmower periodi- cally. Make sure you let it cool down first. 6. Lubricate the throttle con- trol cable and wheels. Use a good penetrating oil. This will prevent rust. "We hope these guidelines are helpful" The Staffof Uxbridge Small Engines
