"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Council grants Canterbury Common development 185 units of sewage A 240-unit subdivision slated for north Port Perry has cleared a major hurdle in its quest to be- gin development. There are 435 units available for residential development in the Township of Scugog. The developers of Canterbury Common can now proceed with the next step of its development. Although the developers were seeking 240 units, the 185 units will provide them with a foun- dation in which to begin. It also saved the project as a deadline of May 11 was placed on the project. Representatives from the development had an- other party interested in the proposed land if the deal fell through. Canterbury Common is 240- home retirement setting on 125 acres of land. It will include a golf course. Although the issue has been Forder-Parks Insurance Brokers Inc. Four developers are vying for the remaining 250 units. Mayor Howard Hall has had discussions with the four devel- opers concerning the allotments and all but one have accepted a proposed allocation. But Lou Stein, a representa- tive with Ribcor, who is seeking 64 units, is not happy with the proposal. Under Mayor Hall's scheme, Ribcor would be grant- ed 30 units. Mr. Stein has requested a meeting with council on May 17 to discuss the matter. If heis not satisfied with the results of the meeting, he has indicated that he'll take the matter to the On- tario Municipal Board (OMB). Mayor Hall said a decision will be made on the additional sewer allotment at a meeting on Monday.
