"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Modern Day Braves release new music on Iron Chief Charlie tape By Julia Dempsey Port Perry Star +. Fans of the Modern Day Braves can now purchase tapes of the band's music at area record stores. Circular Sounds in Port Perry, Sam the Record Man in Oshawa, HMV in Toronto, and Moon Dance in Peterborough are selling the independent re- lease. Ly "We're down to 200 copies al- ready and we just got it on Fri- day (May 14)," lead vocalist Joe Roncetti, a Port Perry resident who also provides accompani- ment on guitar and tambourine, told the Star on Wednesday. The band released 800 copies of "Iron Chief Charlie", a high quality package featuring eight of the group's original tunes. The tracks include $30 Soap, _ Pull The Sky, Billy, Passion Thief, Do You Float, Slow Walk- ing Charlie, Live It Down, and The Little Tune. Mr. Roncetti says the band does not restrict its music to one distinctive style, but instead the music ranges from rock to blues to country folk and everything in between. By performing such a wide range of styles, Mr. Roncetti saysitbroadens their audience. "Our music appeals to a lot of different people," he says. Mr. Roncetti grew up loving rock 'n' roll and was influenced by the Jayhawks, Gram Par- sons, the Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. "The groups that we love give it 110 per cent," he says. "That's how we approach it as well. We put everything into it. Our live show is fun to watch because were in a different world up there." Other members of the Mod- ern Day Braves include Port Perry residents Eric Grosvenor (guitar, vocals, harp), and Dave Pashley (drums, tambourine), Toronto resident Mike Iwan (guitar, vocals), and Oshawa resident Mike Williams (bass). The band formed two years ago and has been performing at Toronto and area night clubs. Cassettes of "Iron Chief Charlie" will also be available at the show for $8 a tape. Both Warner Bros. and MCA Records are interested in the Modern Day Braves and their music, Mr. Roncetti says. "Some people think that if you put out an independent record- Ing you haven't made it yet.
