y "A Family Tradltion for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, May 26, 1993 - 29 Peewee MoJacks defeat tough Stouffville rivals 8-6 The Port Perry ModJacks Pee- wee rep team started their ball season off on Tuesday, May 18 against their toughest rival Stouffville. These two teams are not on friendly terms and every time they meet up it is a well fought battle and this game was to be no different. Stouffville started things off in the top of the first as the Mo- Jacks got two quick outs then let Stouffville get back to back singles followed by a long triple to push two runs across for the early lead. Stouffville shut the ModJacks down in their half of the first and continued their own hit attack in the second in- ning picking up another three runs to take a 5-0 lead. The home half of the second inning once again had the ModJacks come up empty as they were re- tired in order. The opening game jitters seemed to-die down in the third inning as Stouffville had run- ners on first and second with two out. Their batter hit a sin- gle to right field and the runner on seeend tried to score but Nick Skerratt made the perfect throw to MoJack catcher Doug Short who applied the tag for the third out. This seemed to really pick the MoJacks up as they loaded the bases up in their half of the third inning and finally broke the goose egg: tomakeit a 5-1 game. The fourth inning had the ModJacks playing a lot more in- spired ball but still gave up one run to the hard hitting Stouff- ville team and fell behind 6-1. Once again the local boys were unable to get anything going in their half of the inning as they went down in order. Stouffville was unable to get anything going in their half of the fifth inning and when the ModJacks came to bat in the bot- tom of the inning they were de- termined to get back in this con- test. And get back in they did as they exploded for three runs to close the gap to 6-4. Once again the ModJacks held Stouffville off the scoreboard and went into their final at bat trailing by only two runs. The boys showed great patience and a keen eye at the plate as they worked the Stouffville pitcher for three consecutive walks then a single by Doug Short and a triple by Ryan Williamson were all that this never say die team needed to pull out a well deserved 8-6 victory. Getting the win for the Mo- Jacks was Jon Froats as he pitched quite well striking out four as he went the distance. Doing the hitting for the Mo- Jacks were, Doug Short with three singles, Jason Best with a double and two walks, Scott Jef- fery with a single and a walk, and Ryan Williamson a triple and a walk. Showing a good eye' at the plate were Jon Froats with two walks, Marc Versage with a walk, and Ryan Moynes whom had a walk and also had the ModJacks first stolen base of the season. All the players played hard and were very de- serving of the win. Well done ModJacks. - The ModJacks play their home games every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on the south diamond down at the lake.
