Cornish Public School did well at the re- cent D.E. A.A. Regional Gym- nastics finals. R.H. Cornish won four firsts, five seconds, one third, three fourths, one fifth and one sixth. In the Pre-Elite division Kate Colmer was sixth on the floor and in the Junior Optional Kim Coates was first on the vault. In Intermediate Optional Melissa Kroonenberg was first on the floor, fourth on beam and sec- ond on vault. Andrea Smith was second on beam and fourth on vault. In Advanced Compulsory Lesley Donnelly was third on the vault, Erin Malcolm was second on beam and Holly Pat- ton was first on vault. In Grade 65-8 Compulsory Ashlea Jones was second on the vault and Lindsay Wilson was fourth on floor, second on beam and first on vault. In Grade K-4 Compul- sory Jennifer Bruton was fifth on the beam. In the boys division Graham Strickert was first on floor and vault, Noah Krol was sixth on vault, Donald Cuu was fifth on floor and third on vault, Evan Jones was sixth on vault and Jesse Hodgins was fourth on floor. S.A. Cawker gymnasts did well at a number of recent meets. At the Durham Central Girls Gymnastics Meet held May 6 Stacey Cunningham was sec- ond in the K-4 floor and Geni Brown was fifth in the 5-8 floor. In the Advanced Floor Holly Yake was fifth and April Storey was sixth. In the Junior Option- al Floor Mandy Smart was first, Lindsey Green was third and Yvonne Prentice was fifth. Kris- ty Dalton was first on the beam and third on the vault. In the Advanced Compulsory Floor Kam Cooper was fifth and Jeff Ashton was sixth. Kam Cooper was first on vault and Jeff Ashton was fourth. In Junior Optional Floor Darryl Dalton was first and he also claimed first on the vault. Other team members were Scott Cunningham, Kevin Cart- er, David Halward, Glenn Thompson and Greg Manns. 9-10 Mites Saintfield Machining Mites (9-10-11) played Brian's Towing on May 19. Brians had strong pitching by Hayley Finn and Andrew Fos- ter and good skills in the field by Chelsea Powell. Saintfield was powerful at the bat, coming up with the win. Home runs were hit by Donald Campbell, Mindy Thomson and two grand slams by Matt How- ell. Fine pitching by Bradley Giannini. Cornish Gymnastic Team came away with a number of medals at the Regional Finals held at the Gemini Club in Whitby on May 13. Finalists from four areas of Durham Region competed in the finals and pictured above are some of the Cornish winners.
