Durham Regional council ap- proved the purchase of a parcel of land last week which will al- low the expansion of the pump- ing station on Old Simcoe Street in Port Perry. The small parcel of land, lo- cated adjacent to the Techstar building in Port Perry, was pur- chased for $15,000 by Durham. According to Yvonne Chris- tie, vice-chairman of the Works Committee, the land will be used to expand the existing pump house. Councillor Christie said the acquisition was the first step in the expansion process. The re- gion must now provide a draft design and the project must be approved the Ministry of the Environment. If all goes according to plan, the project could begin in the fall. The subdivision has been ex- periencing problems with its sewage system and it is believed this project will alleviate the back-up problems which has caused basement flooding. It will also accommodate fu- ture expansion of the sewage system along a stretches of Queen and Silver Streets which are not currently on full sewage systems. MsSissay co OF SCUGOG ISLAND-FIRS!
