The Port Perry MoJack Pee- wee rep team travelled to Stouffville on Thursday, June 10 for a much anticipated re- match after having previously beaten them here in the season opener. This game was also the pitch- ing debut of Clayton Brown who has recently joined the team. One would tend to think that Clayton would be a little bit ner- vous facing the high powered Stouffville team. But he han- dled the pitching duties quite well as he held the Stouffville team off the scoresheet for the first three innings. The only problem was that the ModJacks couldn't get any sustained hit- ting attack of their own going, so attheend ofthe thirdit was a 0-0 game. Finally in the bottom of the fourth Stouffville got things go- ing and pushed three runs across to take a 3-0 lead. The Modack boys didn't roll over though and fought back with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 3- - ModJack action 2 game. The Modacks just couldn't seem to bunch hits together from this point on however to get any more runs while in the meantime Stouffville picked up four in the fifth and three in the sixth to close out the game with a 10-2 win. Even though Clayton took the loss on the mound he pitched a very strong game. The hitting for the MoJacks was done by: Jason Best two singles and a double, Scott Jeffery a single, Doug Short a triple, Clayton Brown a single, Aaron Levy a single, Ryan Williamson walked twice, Ryan Moynes a walk, Brad Monsma a walk, and Marc Versage had two sin- gles and was then hit in the ribs with a fastball that got away so to speak and had to leave the game. The ModJacks next games are Tuesday, June 15 against Rich- mond Hill in Port Perry with a 6:30 p.m. start and then on to East Gwillimbury on Wednes- day evening. Laurentian wins This week's action under rainy skies once again was ac- tion packed. The first game saw Laurentian Bank defeat Smith and Smith Big V 1-0. There was a lot of end to end action but Kirk Stephens finally scored the games only goal with Cory Jones recording the shutout. Robert Forderer came up with some great saves for the Big V team playing a solid game in goal. Good games were also played by Luke Pither and Kimberly Wilson. In the other game J&D Car- pentry vs the R.C. Legion. The legion came out on top by a score of 5-1. Despite the loss Danielle Bourgeois scored the only goal and had an all round great game. Jarret Olsen faced a lot of shots and made some super saves as well as Jordan John- stone doing some super hus- thng. Thursday's action saw Smith and Smith Big V defeat the Air Durham team by a score of 4-0. Scoring for the Big V was Shane Taylor with two goals, Jona- than Hamelick with one and Kimberly Wilson with one. For Air Durham they showed lots of spirit with a full turnout of players and a great effort by Ryan Cowie who ran with the ball quite a bit and had a few good scoring attempts only to be held back by the goaltending. Scott Partington also had a good game for Air Durham. Great night for Hank's A good game was played June 7. between Hank's Pastries and Durham Pharmacy in the Sev- en-Eight Mites Division. Durham Pharmacy's Michael Redman made a super play at second base, while Ricky Rahm glammed a field hit. Team mates, Holly Blair, Andrew Le- get and Andrew Fancy demon- strated great hitting power! Hank's Matthew Charron made two super catches stop- ping Durham Pharmacy. Josh Page had three great hits land- ing team mates on bases. Our injured players, Brooke Simp- gon, Rachel Cybulski and Mat- thew Charron managed to play out a great game! Both teams showed great fielding and batting skills. The Port Perry Legion Squirts had a very busy past week. On Thursday evening -Oshawa Shamrocks came to town for a league game. Oshawa scored two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings with some good hitting and a couple of Port Perry er- rors. Port scored one in the bottom of the fourth when Mike Ver- sage reached on a single, ad- vanced to third on a couple of passed balls and stole home on a passed ball also. The boys gave it their best shot in the fifth inning with Ryan McQuade starting the in- ning off with a home run. Mark Richardson singled and Sean Jeffrey beat out a beautiful bunt to put two runners on. Mike Versage reached first on an error that scored Mark. Both Sean and Mike showed excel- lent base running scoring on passed balls, but it wasn't quite enough. Final score - Oshawa 6 - Port 5. Mark Richardson start- ed the game on the mound and posted three strikeouts. Chris Jone came in for the fifth and sixth and posted four. On Saturday the team trav- elled to St. Catharines for their first tournament of the year. Newmarket was the first team that Port had to face. Chris Jones pitched the entire game giving up only one hit and two walks while posting nine strike- outs. A great catch by Sean Jef- frey in right field and a perfect throw by catcher Jeff Ashton to Ryan McQuade at second base to tag a runner out helped to preserve the shutout. The boys had keen eyes at the plate as they picked up a total of nine walks in the game. Mike McLennan led the hit parade with a triple and single. Other singles went to Mike Versage, Ryan McQuade and Mark Hef- fern. Final score - 10-0. Second game of the day was against home town St. Catha- rines who were last years OASA "A" division winners. This game was the best game that the boys have played to date. Port Perry's defense was flawless in- this game. Chris started on the mound and posted nine strikeouts. The only two base runners for St. Catharines the entire game were on walks. Mike Versage and Darryl Dalton teamed up to make the perfect put out on a bunt attempt and Chris Mon- sma made a great catch out in right field. Mark Richardson pitched the final inning and posted two strikeouts. Port's bats were working well in this game as Ryan McQuade hit a home run, Jeff a double, Mike Versage two singles and Mark Richardson, Aaron Lycett and Mike McLennan with a single each. Final score Port 6 - St. Kitts 0. Port's third game of the day was against Simcoe and unfor- tunately our bats quieted down a fair bit. Simcoe scored two runs in the second with a couple of timely hits combined with some Port Perry errors. Simcoe scored two more in the fourth inning before Port could get some of their own offense going. Mike Versage reached base on a walk and scored on a double by Mark Richardson. Mark then scored on a passed ball to make the game close at 4-2. Simcoe Legion Squirts have busy week scored one more in the fifth to leave the final score at 5-2. Mark pitched the entire game with nine strikeouts and allow- ing six' hits. Defensive play of the game was a perfect throw from Reid McTaggart in right field to get a runner trying to leg out a single at firstbase. - Losing the game against Sim- coe put us into the consolation game against Richmond Hill. Chris took to the mound once again and posted 12 strikeouts and allowing only four hits. Port's defense was strong in this game especially Reid McTaggart and Aaron Lycett in the field and Ryan McQuade at shortstop. Hard hits and strong base running by everyone in this game were the order of the day. Jeff had a home run and a single, Ryan a triple, with Dar- ryl Dalton, Mike Versage, Chris Jones, Mark Richardson, Mike McLennan, Aaron Lycett and Sean Jeffrey all collecting sin- gles. Port Perry wins the consola- tion with a 15-2 win. Ryan McQuade was picked as the MVP for the final game. This team represented Port Perry well as they were all good sports on the playing field and young gentlemen off the field. The coaching staff were all very proud of them. Next home game Thursday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. south diamond. The only game this week was against the XL Eagles on Thurs- day evening. Coming off a week of relative success, the Mer- chants were anxious to get out on the ball field again to test their ability against this well- known local team. With Chad Venning on the mound, the Merchants came up with good defensive plays. However, the strong pitching of Todd Wilbur and John Annis limited the bats of the Merchants. Combined they struck out 12 midget players and allowed only three singles and two walks. The final score was 4-1 for the Eagles. The coaches are pleased that the Merchants' bats are slowly coming around and though they are hitting the ball hard, they are not yet landing for hits. With the improved play to this point, they are confident that the hits will soon be converted into runs. Chad Venning and Jeff Card had a good outing, striking out five, walking one, allowing six hits and three earned runs. The Merchants who reached base safely were Duane Empring- ham with two singles, Grant Kay and Jason McBride with a walk each, and Todd Smart with a single.
