Our community ex tends sympathy to Harold Timms and relatives on the very sudden passing of his wife, Etta, last Wednesday morning. We also extend sympathy to Mrs. Ted Harvard and family on the death of Ted after a short illness. Sympathy also goes to the family of Murray Coates who passed away on Sunday af- ternoon. Sympathy to Barb and John, their spouses and fami- lies. Congratulations to David Pe- trie Jr., who graduated with honors from Durham College'in Law Security Administration (Law Enforcement) on Satur- day. David and Kathleen Petrie and Lynn Popowich attended the Convocation Exercise which took place in Civic Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. Cecil and Marie Gibson have good reason to be looking very proud these days with the arn- val of another granddaughter - a baby girl born to their daugh- ter Eleanor and Wayne Mac- Donald of Whitby. On Saturday a large number of friends and relatives joined at the Blackstock United Church C.E. Room to attend the Open--House (celebrating Joan and Gle rove's 30th wed- ding anniversary. After the Open House, Joan donned her wedding gown of 30 years ago (how many women married 30 years could do that?) and Joan and Glenn renewed their wed- ding vows given by their minis- ter, Rev. Dale Davis. Later, Joan and Glenn departed on a second honeymoon. Congratu- lations on many more years of happy married life. ~ Lois and Harold Luke and family members enjoyed at- tending the Reader Reunion held at the Scugog Museum. His many friends and rela- tives will be interested to know that Jim Harris has been re- leased from Peel Memorial Hos- pital and moved to the Port Perry Villa on June 10. Wel- come back to this area, Jim. Congratulations to driver Brian Goble and mechanic Craig Hoskin for winning first at Millbrook Demolition Derby as well as the best decorated car, on Thursday evening. Many from this area enjoyed the various parts of Millbrook Fair on the weekend. The beau- tiful weather certainly added to the pleasure. Cecil and Marie Gibson en- joyed attending the wedding of Susanne Brown, daughter of Larry and Bonnie Brown, to David Robinson in Trinity United Church of Bowmanville. Reception followed at the Bow- manville Lions Centre. Larry lived on Purple Hill and attend- ed Cartwright schools. Low lucky draws were won by Florence Larmer, Gord Finney, Richard Manns, Muriel Butson, Jim Emerton and Ver- na Robertson. Merrill and Jean VanCamp spent the past few days in Otta- wa attending the Conservative convention. Did anyone see them on TV? On a beautiful Sunday after- noon, a large crowd attended the Decoration Service at Un- ion Cemetery. Glenn Larmer welcomed everyone. Rev. Wm. Fairley conducted the service and preached a very appropri- ate sermon. The Blackstock Women's In- stitute met on June 2 at the Blackstock United Church. Fol- lowing the singing of grade, president Mrs. May Shortridge | welcomed 14 members and nine visitors from Nestleton. The theme of the meeting was International Affairs with Convenor, Mrs. Kathleen Watts. Roll call was "Some- thing I would like to know about New Zealand" and the motto "Procrastination Inhibits (travel, life)". Kathleen intro- duced the guest speakers, Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm, who spoke on their trip to New Zea- land to visit daughter Laurie. An interesting tidbit--New Zea- land's money is made in the Ca- nadian Mint in Winnipeg. Edith McLaughlin thanked the Malcolms for their very inter- esting talk. Minutes of the last meeting were read and ap- proved by Pat Sleep. A donation will be given to the Port Perry Library. The theme for the Blackstock Fair displays was discussed. The June meeting will be a side trip to the theatre in Lindsay.
