Losses such as these have prompted the committee to take a second look at the priorities of the township. On the one hand it realizes that attracting manufacturers to the area would prove benefi- cial, but on the other hand it re- alizes that its greatest strength perhaps lies in the tourism in- dustry. "We're trying to march down parallel pathways," Councillor Gadsden said. "If you get people coming and growth will spin off. But in the meantime we must be there to make the community as ready as possible to take the people in with the minimum amount of fuss as possible." In order to devise an overall plan, the committee has initiat- ed meetings with the various business leaders to develop a consensus. All agreed that an overall plan was needed concentrating on the areas of stimulation, and that tourism needs an impetus. Councillor Gadsden has been pleased by the response of the these meetings, noting that a number of the organizations have requested further meet- ings in a few months. A township-wide survey will be conducted in the fall to in- clude all the residents as well. "We want to get as wide a view as possible on where the township should be going," he - said. The survey will help the com- mittee develop an overall strat- egy. "We're trying hard to develop a master plan and an approach that will be satisfactory to the whole township."
