The team's ar- rival in Guelph was met with, what else, a light rainfall. Games had to be delayed for a bit but it did stop long enough for the ModJacks to play their first game of the day. The Mo- Jacks' first opposition was a team from the town of Aber- foyle. The MoJacks came ready to play and quickly jumped on the Aberfoyle pitcher to the tune of five runs in the first and three more in each of the next two innings, while only giving up three runs against them, to Legion Squirts win 7-1 The Port Perry Legion Squirts took to the field last Thursday for another York Dur- ham Fastball League game and came away with a victory over Newmarket. The boys played another good defensive game as Newmarket were only allowed nine base runners. Mike McLennan and Reid McTaggart made a couple of nice catches out in the field. Eric Bird, who had been called up from the spare list, made an excellent catch in left field to help beef up the defence. Aaron Lycett also had a strong game at shortstop. Chris Jones started the game pitching, striking out 10 batters and allowing only one walk. Mark Richardson came in for the fifth and sixth and struck out two and walked two. Ryan McQuade made his pitching de- but for the season and posted one strike out and allowed two walks. Offensively, singles were the name of the game for this one. Darryl Dalton reached base on a single and a walk, while other singles went to Mike Versage, Aaron Lycett, Jeff Ashton, Reid McTaggart and a beautiful bunt single by Mike McLennan. Mark Heffern and Chris Mon- sma both reached base on walks. Final score Port Perry 7, Newmarket 1. ModJack starter Clayton Brown was cruising along until the fourth inning when he start- ed to run out of gas as Aberfoyle managed to pick up five runs to make it an 11-8 game at this point. The MoJack offence kept on going as they picked up two more runs to extend their lead to 13-8. Jon Froats came on to pitch for the MoJacks in the fifth in- ning and did a good job as the Aberfoyle team was mounting a comeback. Aberfoyle managed to pick up five runs over the last three innings but, not to be out- done, the ModJacks picked up three of their own to make it a 16-13 final score, for the Mo- Jacks. This game seemed to wear down the MoJack boys as it took two hours and 45 minutes to play. There were some excellent plays in this game such as a couple of good catches by Brad Monsma and an over the shoul- der catch by Jason Best as he was running away from the in- field. Doing the hitting for the Mo- Jacks were, slugger Jason Best with a homer, triple, single and a walk, Ryan Williamson with a homer, double and two walks, Doug Short two singles and a walk, Marc Versage with a triple, double and a walk, Scott Jeffery a double and two walks, Owen St. John, Brad Monsma and Ryan Moynes each with a single and a walk, and Aaron Levy and Big Nick Skerratt each had a walk. During the latter innings of the game, Miss Froats locked the family's new puppy dog and the keys in the family truck. Without a backup key, this seemed like a certain dilemma but Mrs. Moynes came to the rescue with a quick call to CAA and in no time at all, help was there to rescue the new pup and the keys. Thank God for good friends, Thanks Mrs. Moynes. With the win in the first game, the MoJacks now came up against a rather large team from Peterborough. The rain was coming down at a rather steady pace, sort of the same way that Peterborough was Clellple Rua le Ky scoring runs against the Mo- Jacks. This game was definitely not a close affair. They have a mercy rule that states if a team is ahead by 10 runs after five in- nings, the game is over. They wanted to end our game after three. The ModJack players were wet, tired and getting their butts kicked, so to speak, but they would not have any- thing to do with this game end- ing until they got their five in- nings worth.
