A family Festival Days From page 1 live bands, clowns and other en tertainment. The country amateur contest will be sponsored by CHOO Ra- dio on Friday. Two different ve- nues on Saturday will cater to the different tastes. At Town Hall 1873 there will be comedi- ans, while a '50s and '60s dance in the festival tent will feature Pink Cadillac. The three-day event has been extended one extra day this year to allow for a number of ac- tivities on Sunday. These in- clude a parade and Scottish ta- too, tractor pull and classic car show and a slo-pitech tourna- ment. As popular as Festival Days is with the crowds, some mer- chants are less than thrilled with the event which blocks off the downtown core. Many mer- chants complain that it causes more harm than good. But Mr. Knopp argues that the weekend event serves as an excellent source of promotion which will draw people back to the area. "The key is to promote Scugog so people keep coming back," he said. "The local businesses must understand that we do thison a EMMERSON INSURANCE BROKERS LIMITED 193 QUEEN ST., PORT PERRY, ONT. Mr. Dowson said it was im- portant to capitalize on Festival Days in order to attract people back to the township. "Tourism is where it's at right now," he said. And it appears the Region of Durham is recognizing the suc- cess of Festival Days as well. In celebration of Durham's 20th anniversary, the region plans to use Festival Days as its show- case festival for the 1994 cele- brations. The organizers are taking this as somewhat of a compli- ment. "The region realizes that we have one of the cleaner, better run festivals," said Mr. Knopp. PRIME COMMERCIAL SPACE FOR LEASE -- In downtown Port Perry, approx. 3,000 sq. ft. Air conditioned.
