2 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 29, 1993 munity Newspaper of Choice" Beer Store will allow af charities to canvass Brewers' Retail stores will once again allow charities to op- erate onits property. For years charitable organi- zations have positioned them- selves outside local beer stores seeking donations. But earlier this year the practice was banned after complaints from customers. To replace the storefront so- licitations, the company estab- lished a policy allowing chari- ties to take part in a coin box programin the stores. But in an about face last week, Brewers' Retail clarified its position stating that chari- ties can solicit on beer store property if permission is grant- ed first. The coin box program will remain in effect. Jan Westcott, executive direc- tor for the Brewers of Ontario, said the decision was made af- ter the company received nu- merous complaints from the customers. He said the operator of the in- dividual stores will use their discretion in deciding who can operate outside the store.
