the ~ Games. The winner of this tour nament will represent Ontario - "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Athletes of the Year Athletic awards presented at the Prince Albert chelle Wyville, track and field; Jennifer Donnell back) Tyler Wootton, soccer MVP. This sports report for the Midget Merchants Fastball team is sponsored by the Scu- gog Citizen and Cinemax Video. On Wednesday night, the Port Merchants visited Stouff- ville and put a scare into their Junior team. At the end of the fourth inning, the score was 1-0 for Port Perry when Stouff- ville's coach quickly made a pitching change. At the top of the fifth with nobody on and one out, the Merchants made two errors on outs which should have ended the inning still lead- ing 1-0. Instead the flood gates opened and at the end of the fifth, Stouffville led 5-2. Going into the seventh inning, Stouff- ville was ahead by four runs when Port made a charge scor- ing two runs, one man thrown out at the plate, and one strand- ed at second. The final score was 6-4 for Stouffville who felt fortunate to come away with a win. Between Smith and Card, there was a well-pitched game, with five strikeouts, seven hits, and only three earned runs. It is tough to see a "should have been" win slip away. On Thursday night, Stouff- ville visited Port Perry for the return match. It was a much dif- ferent game, as Stouffville threw their ace to avoid another close game. Venning pitched a strong four innings, strixing out two, walking two, allowing two hits, and only one earned run before being relieved by Card with the score standing at 2-0. At this point, Card did not get the customary defensive sup- port from the team, as Port made numerous mental errors which the coaches have not seen for some time. The final score was 8-0 for.Stouffville whose pitcher only allowed two singles by Denis Smith. The hitters for the week were Duane Empringham - walk, Grant Kay - single, Steve Laird - two singles, double, RBI, Scott MacLennan triple, Todd Smart - single, Denis Smith - three singles, RBI, Darrell Vander Slagt - single, double, two RBIs. Canada Day Weekend, July 1-4, will see the Port Perry Mid- get Merchants in Waterford with 41 other Midget teams for O.A.S.A. Elimination in the Canadian Games. The first game is Thursday night at 6 p.m. vs Bramalea, and if suc- cessful the second game will be Friday at 11 a.m. vs Smith Falls. This tournament is a double knock- out format. The top teams from Ontario will be represented, and if Port Perry stays focussed, the coaches know that the Mer- chants have a good chance of coming out on top. Angels win 7-1 over Bowmanville Scugog Angels won on Sunday night 7-1 over Bowman- ville, but lost on Wednesday last week, 3-1 to Oshawa Dou- ble "Bs" at Durham College. This was a good week for the Angels as they defeated Bow- manville 7-1. The Angels Laurie Dudgeon singled then advanced to sec- ond on a passed ball, and scored on Nancy McConnell's single to tie the game 1-1 after one in- ning. Both teams failed to score in the second, then the Angels went ahead in the third on Na - cy McConnell's single. She scored on Gena Spence's single which made it 2-1 after three.
