ncAg----S-- a AY \ [1] \ A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Bell preparing for area code change From page 1 was running out of available numbers. New technology such as cellular phones, fax ma- chines, computer modems and other features, have resulted in an increased demand for more telephone numbers in the 416 area code. | Despite the change in area codes, the billing pattern will not change. Mrs. McWilliams says the basic rule to remember is that if it was a local call before the area code split, it will re- main alocal. 'Nothing really changes in terms of long distance," she said. "It won't affect the rates." The only difference will be in _ the dialing pattern. The correct area code must be placed in front of the number. It is not necessary if it is in the same area code. Improperly dialed calls after October 4 will still be connected. After March 26, 1994 misdialed calls will reach a recorded mes- sage instructing the caller of the 'correct procedure. The changes to 416 and 905 telephone directories will auto- matically be made for custom- ers in all Bell directories, on di- rectory assistance and in most "directories throughout Canada. . Although the split is not oc- curring until October, Mrs. McWilliams says customers can prepare for the change. It is es- pecially important for business customers. : She suggests changing sta- tionary, signage and advertis- ing materials, telecommunica- tions equipment and computer systems. Mrs. McWilliams says a toll- free number is available for questions concerning the change. The number is 1-800- 465-1416.
