Bill Dowson, president of the Port Perry Chamber of Com- merce was extremely pleased by the success of the event this ear. y "I'm definitely happy with the weekend," he told the Port Perry Star Sunday afternoon. The chamber's president was pleased with the number of peo- ple who attended the events during the four-day festival. He credited the hard work of the chamber répreséntatives as well as the warm weather tor at- tracting the people. Itis estimated that more than 15,000 people took advantage of the activities located through- out the downtown core. And in talking to the various merchants and vendors throughout the weekend, Mr. Dowson says all were quite pleased by the event. "The businesses on the street have had good success and good gales," he said. "The service groups as a whole have done well as well." Mr. Dowson said a large part of the success was that they kept the weekend "simple" and inexpensive. He said many of the events were scaled down to stress fami ly fun and involvement and he _ feels this worked. Mr. Dowson is also relatively pleased from a financial point of view. Although exact figures will not be known until next week, Mr. Dowson says the Chamber of Commerce will be very close to breaking even. But making money has never been the intent of the event. The contractions were a little more regular in the morning, _ but still nothing to worry about she thought.
