34 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 13, 1993 TN : "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PeeWee rep fastball team recor After a week off, the Port Pery MoJack PeeWee rep fast- ball team returned to action this past week, playing two games and coming away with a win and a loss. Their first game was on July 6 as they played host to Thornhill. The game started out slowly as both teams were getting men on but just couldn't seem to get the one hit to get things going. Finally it was the ModJacks who got it together in the bottom of the second inning as they bat- ted around and managed to take a 3-0 lead. Thornhill picked up their first run of the game as the ModJdack players pulled off the old 'throw the ball all over the ball diamond as the runner rounds the bases' rou- tine. After this comedy of er- rors, the ModJacks really got the defence back on track and only gave up one more run the rest of the game. Meanwhile, they also got into their hitting mode as they racked up nine runs of their own to take an almost flawlessly played game by a 12- 2 final. Clayton Brown pitched a complete game, taking the win striking out three and in- ducing numerous ground outs as his dropball was working to perfection. Doing the hitting for the MoJacks were: Jon Froats with two singles and two trip- les, Big Nick Skerratt with a homer, triple and single, Doug Short with a triple and single, Jason Best and Scott Jeffery with two singles each, Aaron Levy with a double, Owen St. John with a single and two walks and Clayton Brown and Brad Monsma with two walks each. The following night, the local boys travelled to Oshawa where they started off on the right track as they quickly jumped out into a 3-1 lead after the first inning of play. They continued to play well and held a 4-2 lead after the second inning but then disaster struck as the wheels fell off and Oshawa scored a to- tal of 14 runs in the next two in- nings. The local boys did re- group, so to speak, as they held off Oshawa the rest of the way but only got one run back and took this game right on the chin, suffering a 16-5 setback. Jon Froats started the game Ss win and was doing well until he slid into a base in the second inning, scraping his side up and just didn't seem to have his stuff working anymore. Clayton Brown came on in relief and did a good job finishing off the game. Doing the hitting for the Modacks in this game were: Slugger Jason Best with homer and double, Doug Shor a double and a single, Aaron Levy and Jon Froats with two and loss singles each, and a single each by Big Nick Skerratt, Ryan . Moynes and Owen St. John. he ModJacks' games in the upcoming week are July 13 in Vaughan, July 17 in Peterbo- rough and Sunday, July 18 in Port Perry at 3 p.m. against Bramalea. Spend a Sunday af- ternoon at the ball park and take in some good action as you cheer the local MoJack team on. Taylor-Ford Mites split games In this week of fastball action in the York-Durham League, Port Perry's rep team split their games with a 12-9 win on the road at Newmarket and a 17-3 loss at home to Willowdale, who may be the toughest team in the league right now. Mike LeFort registered the "W" on two hits, nine walks and 11 strikeouts. He rebounded from a tough 5-run third inning (where our fielders made four consecutive costly errors) to get things going our way again by striking out the side in the fourth inning. He had three hits, including a homer to help his own cause as well. Also having good games at bat were Steve MacLennan (two hits), Matt Skerratt (home run), Jeff Kane (two hits and a walk), Graham Dick (single and double), Stuart Cochrane (sin- gle and two walks), Tim Jones and Mike Koury with singles. Our bats were a lot colder de- spite the hot weather on July 7 as the team was handcuffed by the no-hit, 12 strikeout effort by the Willowdale "ace". We were able to convert three of the four walks he allowed into runs, thanks to some good baserun- ning, especially by Stuart after he twisted an ankle on a slide into third base but gallantly hobbled into home base to break up the shutout. Alert catches were made on the infield on line drives hit to Matt Breen and Mike Milligan. Our defence wasn't as steady as it has been in some games and overall we weren't helped to help prevent Mike LeFort from taking the "L" in this one. He had eight strikeouts sand- wiched in amongst eight walks and 10 hits. The team hopes to rebound from their loss in preparation for a Tournament in Napanee on July 17. Good Luck, Team!! Goreskis vs. Greenbank Wednesday, July 7 Green- bank Variety met Goreskis in a very well played game. Goreskis had great pitching from Matt Stokes and Derek Geary. Derek also had a great hit. There was great action in the field from Sara Dubuc and Jessica Goreski. Shaun Young hit a home run for Greenbank. Brent Couch had a great night with two great catches and a great hit. Kelly Galberg was great on third catching two out. Pitching was strong from Nicholas Spence, Melissa Hooker and Jennifer Hancock. Greenbank won the game with a score of 10-6. Well played game teams!
